No one here cares if you like to dress in women's clothing.
Thats between you and your fashion designer.
And possibly the guys at the club who shove dollar bills into your g-string.
Now if only Ult Spidey had been married... he may've been able to make a deal of some sort with someone, like, say, Mephisto. Give Meph the marriage and Spidey keeps his life. Maybe give Meph some hostess cupcakes and/or twinkies too.
Ultimate Spider-Man was the first comic I started a pull list for (I was 10 at the time). I have every issue along with a Bendis-signed #1. To me, it has more sentimental value as I made sure to save enough money (pretty much non-existent allowance) to make sure I got my monthly copy. To see the character I started off as 5 years younger than, and am now 5 years older than die is somewhat sad.
Some may have their own beefs with Bendis (outside of this comic, I have plenty), but I always felt he had a vibe for this book. Bendis said something about Peter serving as the "Uncle Ben" to a new Spider-Man, but there are no characters introduced in the story that he has had that kind of relationship that could end up as Spider-Man, in my opinion, so to kill the character off seems just kind of like a quick decision to drive up sales and prepare for the Ultimate Universe revamp.
As far as the stupidity of decision-making here, I wouldn't be surprised if they just have his heart stop and appear to be dead in this comic and then just have a "revelation" later when the comic stops selling as well that he was brought back to life and has been in hiding ever since to protect his family.
EDIT: And I have read this issue, but I'll refrain from listing any of the specifics.
I think maybe their orders might have been short since everyone assumed the only reason to polybag the last issue of a series called "the Death of Spiderman" was because he doesn't die.
Maybe they thought they really had to let the world know… no seriously, we killed Spider-Man… no not the real Spider-Man, the Ultimate one. Seriously.
My assumption is that this new Spider-Man will be the Ultimate version of Scarlet Spider (the costume looks sweet), and that they are going to take the Ben Riley thing way further than they did in the 616.
The complication for a new Spidey… but also the opening for it to be anyone… is that Peter dies unmasked in Mary Jane's arms, so after this everyone will know Spider-Man was peter all along.
so yeah: what polybag? I guess its just an extra layer of collectibility: Buy an extra copy and leave it in the polybag for posterity.
Same thing happened with the death of one of the Fantastic Four :-/. They didn't polybag that one, but I remember when Death of Superman came out and it was Polybagged...still have three of those somewhere in original bags. Granted I do believe that came with a pack of cards as well or something inside the polybag...

I believe that Superman issue came with an armband packed in each polybagged issue.
Agreed. Regardless of how good the title may be (I dropped it a long time ago), I don't see how it is news worthy considering that this isn't in the 616 universe. When I explained this to my non-comic reading wife, she had the same response.
I am sure my girlfriend would have the same response. As long as the "real" Peter Parker is alive, she won't care.
I don't think this qualifies as a spoiler, considering the name of the storyline, as has been mentioned. I do think this is also the death of the Ultimate line in general. I mean, Ultimate Spider-Man was the only consistent sales performer of the bunch, and rebooting that title seems like it'd be a good excuse for people to just jump off it.
Considering how well the last relaunch of the Ultimate titles went, I think this one will pretty much go down the same way.

While I've never been a fan of the Ultimate line since it began, I do think some of what your saying about the relaunches has happened because of Loeb's vast swath of destruction of the Ultimate U sometime back.
In regards to the actual storyline, I was willing to give Bendis the benefit of the doubt and read the whole thing through, but now that it's over, I feel both major disappointment and as if my intelligence has been insulted in regards to how the arc was pulled off. Not only did he effectively turn Norman in the Ultimate Marvel version of Doomsday, but the thing that actually killed him? Spider-Man should be smarter than that!
At this point, I'm just as likely to drop New Avengers over the whole issue (especially since I can't say the series is really doing it for me in the way I imagined when I started reading it), and I'm going to be holding up the 'revamp' of Ultimate Spider-Man to a very high standard. If this situation doesn't have a big pay-off and a genuinely new and unique new Spider-Man (instead of an effective carbon-copy of the old one), it won't take me long to wipe my hands of the series and consider #160 to effectively be the end of it for me. I'll probably wipe my hands of the Ultimate line while I'm at it.
