Someone said there's not deep strategy - I sort of disagree. The way you build your "dice deck" plays a huge roll in getting glory. If you do things right you can wittle your deck down to the point where you are getting 2-3 Portals a draw, and can almost for sure get a Dragon or other powerful creature each turn.
There is a strategy, I agree with you. It's all about those first few dice you choose.

Yea it's pretty much portal, portal on your first 2 turns. At least in 2 player. Unless you roll a 8 or 9 and one of the dragons is out. Then I don't see how you pass on it that early. Not sure if you really need 3 portals or not. Man this game rules!
I agree, this game is great. I'll buy it eventually, but dang, $50 seems steep. Easily my favorite "deck building" game. I never liked that mechanic until now.

Totally.
I like to think of Quarriors as being simple to learn, but almost deceptively complex in terms of strategy.

Love me some Portals, that's for sure.

What I like about the "deck-building" aspect is that you don't actually bring your own deck. No players bringing in crazy overpowered stuff. You play with what gets put on the table and everyone has an equal chance. Well...depending how good their luck is

Fun game I played a lot this weekend after preping the home for the familys return on Wednesday.
I played all formats 2, 3, and 4-player. I have seen Dragons dominate and lose. I have seen Portals effective and two slow. I have seen Pawns (Assistants) do well and be horrible.
I really like the game, although I think the 4-player game may be a little short at 12-points.
I havent played with the promo Quaxos cards yet (the text looks a little daunting). Saving that until we get the core rules down.
A couple of mechanics are a little confusing...
How do multipe Immediate Effect Rerolls work? For example let's say you roll a Portal 2 and a Assistant Re-Roll...Can you reroll the Portal die and what happens if you do? My current rulling was that you can reroll the Portal die but you cant use the portal 2 that you rolled if you do.
What happens to the Portal 2 die with one dice left in the bag?
Does the portal die go back in the bag to be redrawn with the 2nd portal draw? I ruled NO, you dont put a die in the used pile until completely resolved.
Culling the guy that scored?
Can you cull the die that scored. I ruled, YES first that die goes to the Used pile then you can cull that die.
"A Jester unemployed is nobody's fool." - The Court Jester "And so he says, I don't like the cut of your jib, and I go, I says it's the only jib I got, baby!
There was also another timing Question about multiple Clone Oozes and how the copying worked?
I dont know exactly what the Question was as I was out of the room at the moment, but if anybody knows of a similar question please post what the question was and how you handled it.

The active player chooses the order of "immedaite" affects I think. So if you roll a portal and a re-roll, then you can choose which order they go in. So you can re-roll the portal, and if you roll a 2 why wouldn't you choose 2? But why would you re-roll a portal 2?
If you the portal die is being used it doesn't go to the used pile until you roll the 2 dice. So you would pick the 1 die out of the bag, then put the used pile into the bag, then pick 1 more. The portal die wouldn't be in the used pile just yet.
Keep in mind both of the above could be wrong. But I think thats how the rules look.

What Jarimy123 said is correct. You choose which one you want to do first. The rulebook clearly states that the effect do not happen simultaneously. You could choose to roll the Portal die if you wanted to.

This was incorrect. The rulebook clearly states that in order to use an effect you must "spend" the die. A spent die immidiately goes into your used pile. There is no extra "hold" area. What would happen is you place the Portal die in your used pile to gain the effect. You then draw the 1 remaining die from your bag and then put your used pile (including the recently spent Portal die) back into your bag and draw 1 more die. An example of this is found on page 10 of the rulebook.

This was correct. Page 8 of the rulebook explains the steps. First, you score. After scoring you move all scored die to your used pile. After that, THEN, you cull a die. So yes, you could cull a die you just scored.

In the games I played last night, the Quaxos Warrior of the Quay came into play. This is the part that was confusing for us...
"(and can be assigned damage up to its defense value without being destroyed)."
Last night, I kept confusing damage with attack, so we played it wrong. I kept wondering what they were talking about when they mentioned he wouldn't be destroyed.
After a full night's sleep, this makes more sense. All they are saying is that unlike every other creature, when total attack equals their defense, they are not destroyed. Ties go to Quaxos defenders, sort of like in Risk, but not other defenders. Cool.
Now I want my roommate to wake up so we can play again.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
deck building games are definitely the current BG FotM. mostly because they are DAMN fun.
changing cards to dice seems to happen every time there's a card trend...and there's a reason for that. we gamers LOVE dice
I'm not surprised it's getting as much attention as it is. one of the guys at my shop got quarriors at gen con...but i was more interested in reading his Twisted Fates and checking out his Avatar Pandora and Seamus.
all that said a few eeks back i read a really good designer diary for the game and some of you folks may enjoy reading it.
If he copies a Dragon how much glory does he score if he survives?
4 Glory (as the Dragon) or 2 Glory (as himself)
How do multiple Clone Oozes work
Ooze #1 comes out and copies a Dragon and then kills the Dragon
Ooze #2 comes out....He copies the Clone Ooze that is copying a Dragon...is Ooze #2 a Dragon?
What happens if Ooze #1 wants to switch to something else before Ooze #2 copies Ooze #1?

I cannot say enough good things about this game. I think my wife even enjoyed playing it. Two of my friends bought it so I did not, but after seeing her understand it and even enjoy it, I am considering picking up my own copy if the price is right. Expansions would be SOOOO easy too. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Wizkids has a hit on their hands here, and I could totally see a "Game of the Year" tag on it next year.
