Assuming a roll high enough to hit all: A is hit twice (once via main effect, once via B's splash), B is hit twice (once via main effect, once via A's splash), and C is hit once (via B's splash).
So the damage is 2, 2, and 1 (respectively), not 2 to each.
Okay, so in the same respect if you had and targeted all 3 and rolled high enough to hit them all, it would 2,3,2, yes?

Jeeze, I step away for a few hours and the thread explodes. >_>
By the way, I hate energy explosion for the simple fact that it reminds me too much of math class in college. There was a reason I was a communications and not a math major. ;\
A quick clarification that I don't think I've seen here yet. Adjacent people can only be hit if the target is hit. That is, if Ultraguy (with a defense of 18) is surrounded by bunch of 14-defense pogs and is targeted by Energy Explosion, and the attacker rolls a 17, the attack won't damage anyone. The target has to be hit before you worry about the adjacent figures.
Energy Explosion is really simpler than it seems. Just throw nitroglycerine at any opponent who wants to use it and yell "LIKE ENERGY EXPLOSION NOW?"
so even though a crit hit deals damage whether or not the attacker meets its points required to have a successful attack, the target is dealt damage twice in EE; but adjacent characters are subject to their defensive abilities/powers, and are hit at least once due to the crit hit?? is that correct??
also, with EE, damage dealt is not based on the damage value on the dial right? target is only dealt one damage per successful hit?
thanks for answering my questions. still a newbie to heroclix and like many, i'm pretty confused sometimes, due to wording of the rules.

All the damage is dealt at once, but it can be more than one damage. This matters for damage reducing powers. If I roll a critical hit when using energy explosion and targeting a character with toughness, he is dealt 2 damage, which the toughness reduces to 1. If it was 1 damage, and then 1 damage again, the toughness would reduce it to 0 each time.

That's correct. If I have a damage value of six, and I use energy explosion to hit one character, it still only deals 1 damage.

I haven't used EE in a long time, but man did I luv those days of Vet ultron from IC.
Ahhh the good old days.
LE Fred Meyers on the roof with three enhancements, triple Target into a crowd for 4 damage each plus splah, I believe I did 64 damage with that one attack. I still have the map that is marked with a crater we added to it from the attack...
The good old days.

You can still do 64+ Damage with one energy explosion with Dr. Manhattan. Under ideal circumstances, he can do 72 damage without even factoring in critical hits, knockback, etc. (of course, that would require your opponent to have his forces politely lined up for you to knock down like bowling pins, but it's possible.)

so everyone takes a click regardless of their defensive powers? So like if splash damages onto someone with toughness.. would it still stop 1 click of damage?
the way my judge explaned it to me was as if there individual attacks,
ABC
if A and C were hit and B had toughness then B would take 1 damage twice, both reduced by toughness, but with armor pircing he would take 1 penitriating damage twice
