Also keep in mind that Prize Support Kits have to be paid for by the venue, so when trying to recover that loss some venues have a buy in price...
I prefer when venues make the tournament having an entry fee than when they alter the price of boosters. Not everyone wants to compete in tourneys anyway.
Also keep in mind, Judges usually don't play in the tournaments. At every venue I've been to, the Judges, with notable exceptions few and far between, only play opponents in the By-Round slot, as an option to just sitting around for 40-50 minutes. But, the venues usually provide a set of figures/maps/objects from the OP Kit in gratitude for running the events. So, Judges usually play less, but don't have to worry about LE pieces.
Just stuff to keep in mind.
I've heard of judges that do things differently, but every venue I've ever been to does it this way.
As a judge myself, I always kinda hope that there's an odd number of players because otherwise I'm just watching and giving the occasional rules adjudication for every round.

I like just watching. I'm a heroclix voyeur.

Another good quality for a Judge to have is attractiveness. You don't want your Judge to be an unhygienic, overweight, uncharismatic slob. Who's going to want to join a group with that as the "leader"?
When I was a judge for Mechwarrior, I found it very helpful to have a second judge at the venue. We'd alternate weeks, months, or however we needed to work it out. Doing so let us both play (on the weeks that we weren't judging), and if necessary, skip a week should life demand it.

That's something I've had in mind, because I wouldn't mind playing at times myself, this would be prime to have a second lined up.

I am not unhygienic! I make up for it by being a klutz.

This! My brother and I have been co-judging since starting at the new store, and it is SO VERY NICE compared to the old "just me" system.
also remember that you're not going to know everything all the time. Make the best call you can and stick to it. The realms is a great place for help but many times durring a tournament it might take a little longer to receive an answer from an official (which is who the player prefer to answer tough questions.) So it's good to correct one self between rounds if your call was incorrect.
It would be nice to have a second Judge. I can only run events every-other week. Fortunately for local players, there are at least five other venues in the area that also run events.
ive played at several venues that have no judge, just an arbitrater that knows the rules enough. If something comes up aside that is not covered i the FAQs, we flip. There were no judges during any actionclix(nor rules support of almost any kind) or horrorclix, so its not really something we ever needed.

Ack! I would go crazy at your venue. This is not meant to be an insult. I'm just really anal about getting the rules correct.
