This is my first time doing this as well. So for results like Doom and Surfer, take a drop of paint, put it in a cap of water from a soda bottle. Then slather it over the entire figure and wipe off the excess from the surface, allowing it to collect in the crevices? Is this about right?
I'm in the same boat wanting to paint SR's! I was pining to paint my spare GSX Phoenix as the Dark Phoenix but couldn't pull the trigger. She sat in my trade box for 6 months and then I pulled a third who was missing paint steps. No eyes no logo. That was sign enough for me to do it. And she looks 100x better, and Ive never been more happy.
Going forward I'll probably paint any spare that doesnt trade, or any defective pieces.
Citadel paints make a straight up black wash (Devlin Mud) and it is good for those who are unsure on how to properly mix (or proportionately balance) the water to paint ratio.
