I saw somewhere and have heard that people go to target and cherry pick good pieces out of the packs, leaving some packs torn apart and ripped and even figures broken in some cases.
How does that make the heroclix community look?
Even if the people at the retailer don't know of the heroclix community, how do the good heroclix people feel knowing that there is such scum people that play this game and give us a bad name
who are we to judge others?
I've been to 3 Targets, all of which have had the Loki Chase cherry picked. I didnt bat an eye, cuz you want to know something.
No point getting worked up over material possessions.
G-d, I swear these days, everyone is complaining about something...
Have perspective please.

Yup. I've seen this done on Hot Wheels packages, by a retailer, with a hole puncher. One little hole and no more MIP...

This has nothing whatsoever to do with the HC community, the gaming community, or even the collectors.
This is purely human nature. It's nothing different than I see all the time in many aspects of life; you give people the opportunity to abuse anything - anything - and it'll happen. Not to say everyone is like that... I strive for honesty and integrity in my dealings, even knowingly to my own detriment. Mainly because I find so many aspects of human nature so disgusting and deplorable that I refuse to indulge in said behaviour.
It's life. Get offended all you want, try to shame these individuals all you want, it won't make a difference at all.

Honestly.. (and hate me for this if you want but its life)
I don't have an issue with it. Mass Market stuff like this will happen. More than half the time, and I do mean this, it isn't even Heroclix community people that do it. It is the people that don't know crap about the game that do it. That is what makes me sad.

It is absolutely people who know about the game. They know there is a chase worth $70 in there and are willing act like greedy scumbags to get it. It makes me sick. It ruins it for those of us who enjoy opening boosters and feeling good when we have the luck to pull the pieces we want or that are valuable. It's the same as if I went in and opened all the baseball card or magic card packs until I found what I wanted or what was valuable.
People are a**holes, the fact you expect anything else shows the naivety of this 'community'. I've learned this a long time ago, and I've since been relieved from the constant disappointment.

I was really sad to see this comment from DarkLordVerjal (though with a name like that, go figure). I completely sympathize with YellowDentStyle. But really, I think people are better than we are giving them credit here. Think about the fact that this game is trying to appeal to the younger audiences with the mass market releases (ever notice that the boosters say for ages 14+?). A younger kid who really wants something will do things like you're all describing. It's a more feasible alternative than paying 50 bucks for something online when you're a kid just using your allowance to get into your hobby. I don't approve of it and would definitely make my son pay for every box that he marred in the process, but it also doesn't make them bad kids.
People are not ***holes. They are people. And they deserve and REQUIRE that we attempt to teach them the better behavior that we as fellow members of their community expect of them. If we are unwilling to do so, then we are just as at fault for their poor behavior as they are. If we know better, than we need to BE better. Being better does not mean that we sully ourselves with bitterness for all people because of the acts of a few.
The Heroclix community (yes, we are a community) has some of the best people I have ever met. Just the fact that we vote Fellowship to give a prize to someone for being fun to be around is proof of that.
I found this problem with the Hunger Games figs in our local Target. I grabbed three of the boosters out of a relatively full gravity feed. When I got home, I noticed that all three of them had been tape-cut, though carefully enough that I didn't notice till I got them home. Obviously, there were no "named" characters in these that had been opened and left behind. I called the store to tell them, and they allowed me to return them, since I had no fair chance of getting anything good. I went through the case for them and brought all the opened ones up to the service counter, warning them that someone is going through them for the chases. And these are in the display right next to the registers!
"One day I feel I'm ahead of the wheel, and the next it's rolling over me."
Target has no policy against opening boxes and no policy against returning anything. You can literally return something for no reason as long as you have the receipt, and they'll refund you. Explain the situation of "I can walk into a target and spend $3 and walk out with $70" and essentially everyone would say "Oh hell, I'd do that." This is problem caused by Target's poor policies, made worse by Wizkids' decision to put out a product under a system that allows this, and then merely taken advantage of by cherry pickers.

The only thing I'll cherry pick are the Super Boosters. If I'm paying $40 plus tax for a Super Booster, there is no way in hell I'm buying blind. My friend wanted Mastermold, but was too afraid to open the boosters at the store. So I opened them, looked inside until I found him a Mastermold. He spent $40, the venue made a sale, and he walked away a happy a camper.
I got three of the colossal figures with my case I opened up tonight. I still need Master Mold, Galactus, and Giganto. But I'll cherry pick these. I will not spend $40 for a blind super booster. That is way too much money to gamble away and hope you don't pull a duplicate.
And to be honest.. with WizKids treatment of us fans, and the exclusivity of the 11 figures in Targets and other big box stores... I don't blame people for cherry picking for the Loki. If WizKids wants to send everyone on a wild goose chase when the national average for a gallon of gas is $5, and us hardcore fans get no love, then so be it. Why should we show any love in return?
I hate to say it but it is Wizkids fault for packing a chase in a small set. Normally I do not complain about chase figures but putting one in so small a set really is a scam much like the generic packed in the Anti-Moniter set.
I would not vandalize product, and that is exactly what it is, like a scumbag. I will, however, weigh boosters in hopes of getting Hulk, the only figure I want from that set.
