i think i saw my judge/venue rule that strange couldn't make a ranged attack from an astral, becasue the astral was based....
but looking at how it's worded, that's exactly what was supposed to happen. I believe the judge was thinking strange would shoot form the astral like prof. x does and thought since the astral was based it couldn't make a ranged attack (although i thought prof. x was still allowed ranged attacks).
i dont know if that player lost that game, but i know not being able to make ranged attacks through the astral was a bad ruling.
As noted, Prof X can in fact shoot from a friend when the firend is based, because the firend isn't making the attack: X is.
However, Dr. strange does not shoot from the Astral. it actually works like this:
My Astral is adjacent to your Batman in Hindering. My Strange uses the Astral to "mark" Batman. Strange can now see Batman to use Perplex, Outwit and or make a ranged attack: since LOF is not required his Stealth has no impact. He doesn't even get the defense bonus for Hindering, as that benefit is triggered by LOF.
An important point is that once the Astral "tags" Batman the Astral's part is done. Strange does not use the Astral when making an attack or using Perplex or Outwit, he only uses the Astral to "tag" a target figure. If the "tag' was made before the Astral took an action, the Astral could now move away: his presence is no longer required.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
“No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.”

Great explanation. Rep.
Boy, I sure have pissed off a lot of people lately on the interwebs. Sorry to all.
What about calling them "Papillomas?"
if make a ranged attk with Dr. Strange trhough an astral, can can he use P/SB?
Concentrate on One Projection: Give Dr. Strange a free action and choose an opposing character adjacent to a friendly Astral Dr. Strange. This turn, Dr. Strange can target that character regardless of range, squares, or line of fire when making a ranged combat attack or using Outwit or Perplex.
Penetrating/Psychic Blast results in a ranged combat attack. So that works just fine.
However, like was noted above, Strange is not attacking THROUGH the Astral Strange. Instead, the Astral Strange has "marked" (for lack of a better term) the target and now Strange himself can attack it regardless of range or LOF.
I think that DR. Strange is pretty awesome. I actually think he's better without the Astral Projections, however. They don't give a great benefit, are ridiculously easy to squish, can't lock down the opponent or block LOS, and they give your opponent the opportunity to damage Strange without taking Mystics damage (as well as extra points toward victory).
CarlosMucha: that is like be running in a Olimpic race competition just one step to get the gold and then a Giant children place a mirror in your side and you discover what you are really a hamster over a whell and the gold is just a slice of chess. Avatar Summoning: Original GotG, Melter, Whiplash
And to clarify before it comes up, Dr Strange can not make a close combat attack thru an Astral Strange regardless if he's based or not correct?
No.

No mention of close combat.

I think people confuse his powers in application by assuming its similar to Prof X's.
Well, in this case they are the same.
In Contact with Cerebro: If Professor X is in your starting area, he can draw lines of fire and count range and squares for his Speed, Attack, and Damage powers from the square of any single friendly character with whom he shares a keyword.
I'm more of lamenting WHY they had to go and make the GG Dr. Strange & GF Dr. Strange 271 points...cannot even fit in 2 Astral Dr. Stranges...that'd make theme!
PC, Perplex, ES/D all around...nasty.

As I understand it, to be comically accurate, he can only do one projection.
I saw the title of this thread and assumed it was about the 75 pt gravity feed Dr Strange, because he is a boss. Much better than the full set version.
When will we get a Carrion, Shriek and Demogoblin so I can run a true Maximum Carnage team?
I'm still unsure what the 'free action' is. Is it targeting before making an attack? I figured Strange's power made if more like a Ziran or Galactus's multi attack.
I think WK decided to require a Free Action to choose a Projection so if you fielded multiple projections you couldn't interact with each one on the same turn.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
