If it is an actual 3D object, yes. Some standard objects are more than just a cardboard disc (see Foom's Finger, Silver Anvil, etc), but they are not special, marked with a gear symbol, 3D objects.
Here's the bit from the rule book you really need (page 19):
SPECIAL OBJECTS Special objects are objects (either tokens or 3-D objects) marked with the [gear] symbol. They represent items on the battlefield that create special effects or grant characters holding or using them special abilities. Regardless of which player places a special object, any player can use its abilities, and all players are subject to its effects. The abilities of the special object continue whether the object is being held or occupying a square, though some objects may specify that their effects are ignored when they are held.
ok, so actually, all HEO are special and also:
Standard objects cost 0 points to add to your
force, but special objects may have a point value
listed on their associated card, and cost that many
points to add to your force.

thank you!
If HEO is meant to mean "ultra-heavy object" then this is not accurate.
The gear symbol...not the weight...is what makes it special. For example, the wrecked vehicles become ultra-heavy objects, but as far as I recall, they are not given the gear symbol and would thusly be standard.

Wow, that's very interesting. If that holds up, then that means if I were playing with SI Hercules with his Godlike Strength, he'd be able to pick up a wrecked vehicle in addition to a standard heavy or light, or possibly two wrecked vehicles. That could be nasty.

But the rule book says that UHO are considered heavy objects, not special objects.
As I said above, weight has absolutely nothing to do with an object's status as standard or special. The only thing that matters is the gear symbol.
Yes, all uho's are heavies, but that does not make them standard or special. There are special heavies, like the Meteorite, and there are standard heavies, like the anvil. The Meteorite is special because it has the gear symbol. The tank turret is also special because of the gear symbol.

And comic accurate too!
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
Regarding the UHO and other special objects, can you play a UHO along with another special object so long as that special object has a red or yellow ring, or blue even?
For example, could I run with the UHO, some Kryptonite, and a standard heavy?

You can include up to three objects on your force.
If you choose to use all three, they must be the following:
1 light object
1 heavy object
1 anything
Simple as that.
In your example you have 1 heavy (the ultra heavy), 1 light (the kryptonite), and 1 anything (the other heavy). You'd be fine.
The confusion with objects can be traced back to Immobile Objects.
Immobile Objects are Special Objects (so far all IOs are SOs). The idea is then misinterpreted to mean 1 Special Ibject because you can only have 1 blue ring Immobile Object.
As Harpua stated above, if you use 3 objects you can use:
1 Yellow Ringed Object
1 Red Ringed Object
And 1 Object that is either Yellow, Red, or Blue.
Note: the only rule about Special Objects is that they are unique and you can't field more than one of the SAME kind. No using 2 Yellow Lanterns, for example.
