How strict is the "Real Name" thing? Can I call in Robin reinforcements by taking Batman and Robin [JL38, 138 points] and Splitting them into The Dynamic Duo [BA30, 80 pts] and Robin [BB42, 43 pts]? Or maybe clone a Batman [or perhaps that's DickBats] by going with Batman [BA01, 50 pts] instead?
The Dynamic Duo's "real name" is "Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake." Does that count as either Bruce Wayne or Tim Drake, or must it be taken as an entire unit?

That real name is neither "Tim Drake" nor "Bruce Wayne", it is "Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake".
I can understand that, but which of the following is more "brilliant"?
Having it listed with characters so that people ##### about it being spread out
Having it all on one page, so that people ##### that they have to look two different places for info on a character
Duplicating the info, and having people ##### about the length of the document
D] Integrate it as they have in the full PG, and also create a secondary "Duo Guide" as they said they were gonna do, which you can use in isolation. Same way I want the ATAs to be a single, solitary document.
I'm cool with the PG being full of everything, but I also want splintered, specialized documents as well. Like a pamphlet of just errata and clarifications for rules, without every special power ever. I like that it's there in one version of the document, but I'd like it to not be there in another one.
But then, that's what copying and pasting is for. Take a few minutes and make these specialized documents for yourself.
Character name: Walter Kovacs.
Alter ego: Rorschach.
It never says "Real Name" on Kovacs' character card--just "Alter Ego."
How do we handle THAT one with regard to the Watchmen duo of Nite-Owl and Rorschach? On a literal level, it shouldn't work, but is there some allowance yet for situations like this?
The 'Qualifying Name' is the name on the dial. The 'Qualifying Real Name' is the name on the card on the back. It is no more complicated than that. Maybe the card calls it "Real Name", maybe it calls it "Alter Ego", maybe it even gets called something else in the future... who knows... but for the Split/Merge mechanic, it is all the same thing.

But still no using Thor Frog of Thunder for Split/Merge?

Or "Cover Identity", for example. Good to know.

Ok, this is really simple.
Take the card of Thor Frog of Thunder into your hand and then look at the duo you want him to be a part of from the Player's Guide. Now, look at the 'Qualifying Name' column and compare it to the name that is on the top of the frontside of the Frog's card.
Does the name match the qualifying name?
If not, then look at the 'Qualifying Real Name' column and compare it to the real name found on the back of the Frog's card.
Does the real name match the qualifying real name?
If it is still a no, then Thor, Frog of Thunder can't be split from or merge to the duo you had in mind.
