It's not foolproof. It requires your entire team to clump together...or at least line up. It limits your mobility and potentially leaves you vulnerable to a massive Pulse Wave...which I believe would ignore the defense modifications.
Still, could be very effective if done wisely.
It would also ignore the ATA. So it is now time to kill the Pulse Wavers!
with the old ata the team ability was no great loss 1 because it was free and 2 because as worded it don't say unmodified (i never played with it so i don't know if that is really the case) but if it is 21 DV for my entire team hmm.... also it doesn't say anything about being adjacent so even if it is unmodified that's still your entire team with 19 DV not needing adjacency. pretty freakin broken if you ask me. I also recall some really old Invisible Woman with 20 DV
I only tried the 21 DV-based F4 once (feat ATA + Mr. Fantastic (SI) + BT) in a 600 point tourney back in the day, but lost to an all-Mystics (TA or keyword) team featuring Legacy Ares and SI Dr. Strange.
Strange Perplexed Ares' AV to 15, Sersi TK'd him adjacent to LE Sue Storm, and Ares KO'd her in one attack . It was all downhill from there.
One of my favorite teams during this time was using FF Rookie Submariner with Shellhead & Armor Piercing, FF Vet Iron Fist, LE Sue Storm and then any MoE figure that would fit.
Mostly thematic, but Namor would just bring the hurt. With Iron Fist in tow this close combat duo wreaked havoc. Plus Havoc was another go to figure of the day.

You know, I see some talk about using the (awesome) Skymax LE from Supernova to use with the new Marvel 10th Anniversary Skrull Spidey chase to provide the team with the Defenders TA (via Skr-idey's trait giving other Skrulls his Wildcard TA), but it makes more sense to me to just assign him this ATA (as he has the Fantastic Four keyword) and be done with it. Voila, instant Defenders TA for all...
(Like the figure needed another justification for its "AWESOMESAUCE" rating...)
Good article, sir! I've really had fun building teams around all the neat ATAs the FF have been given lately (Future Foundation, Newer Fantastic Four, FF), but it's always good to go back to the "original" one from time to time...
