Couldn't be more Pro-Cyclops at this point. The end points in AvX 12 and now UXA #1
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
just people telling Cyclops he's a jerk
just make me more and more aggravated with the Avengers. The Avengers need to either need to let Cyclops go, or put Wanda right there with him. I can't think of a single thing that Cyclops did wrong, other than stick up to the Avengers.
Cyclops should be leading the Avengers at this point.

I'll always like Cyclops. Now ask me if I like any of the people that have been writing him for several years.
Pretty much how I feel. The last time Cyclops was done justice was under Ed Brubaker, the main orchestrator behind the Messiah Complex.
Granted, I never read a single AvX issue, but most writers treat Cyclops poorly. I've also tired of the "heroes fighting heroes" scenario.
Cyclops became my favorite X-man under the Whedon "Astonishing" run. That run really defined Cyclops for me, so anything since then has kind of paled relatively to the characterization of Scott Summers.

Cyclops has always been my favorite X-Man. His leadership from Messiah CompleX to Second Coming was progressively hardcore, but with Second Coming, I found he was at a place to wield the leadership of the X-Men as a banner of hope (and Hope).
Though I am not the biggest fan of the Avengers vs. X-Men series (I dropped it with issue #10), the core conflict has proven one, undeniable truth:
Cyclops was right.

Yeah that's been the main thing I see every where
Do you hate him for losing himself and seeming obsessed with the Phoenix and mutant kind
Or love him for his passion and drive for the mutant community and obsessing on protecting the Phoenix
Cyclops was right?
Cyclops was wrong?

Cyclops' core motivation has been to protect Hope. His argument to Captain America was that Hope would use the Phoenix Force to restore the mutants.
Are there solid arguments about corruption of those carrying the Phoenix? Sure. But those would be impossible if Tony Stark hadn't started trying to take on quantum physics, which is unrelated to mechanics/engineering/robotics, and caused the Phoenix to sever in the first place.
Cyclops wasn't obsessed with the Phoenix. He was obsessed with Hope. He created a new X-Force and ordered them to kill his son. He sent a more lethal form of that team to kill Purifiers and eliminate any and all threats to mutants. He ruled the mutants like a king or a general, making his word law (which is why a new Cyclops should have the Ruler keyword). He fought the Avengers when they tried to kidnap Hope. He forced X-Force to leave captive mutants to die so they could be sent to extract Hope from the future. He sent Nightcrawler to his death. He sent Cable to his death. He did all these things for Hope.
I said previously that I dropped AvX. It was issue 10, where Cyclops started trying to kill Hope (an act that was totally out of character at the time). Aside from those issues, Cyclops knew, believed with all his heart, that Hope would restore mutantkind. His faith was rewarded.
Even though he was painted as a villain, Cyclops and the X-Men won Avengers vs. X-Men.

Still adamantly dislike Cyclops and I doubt that will ever change. Haven't read AvX 12 or UA 1 yet, but I will soon. Still possessed or not, Cyke started in full control of the force and wanted to erradicate the Avengers as well as firing the first shot while not possessed.
Honestly they really just need to have Cyke take up Magneto's mantle and become the Anti-Human character that the writers have been setting up for a while now. He's basically useless as a hero since everyone in the MU views him as a radical.
I've liked Cyclops (and most other X-Men) to varying positive degrees ever since I started reading X-Men comics way back around Vol.1, #121 or so.
Generally still do.
And that's why I've been reading X-books for the past 30some years....
Unfortunately I can't say the same for the people who've been writing the X books for about the last 10 years or so. They mostly keep getting progressively worse. The last couple years have been really bad IMO. So bad that I stopped reading X-titles when they pointlessly re-booted Uncanny here awhile ago. That was the final hint from Marvel that it was time to drop the X-Men from the pull list.
AvX? Yes, I read that.
1) Because I was still reading a few Avengers titles.
2) But mostly because I wanted to see how Marvel sets up the foundation of their (partial) line-wide reboot.
And I read the first Uncanny Avengers.
Result? I might well be dropping some Avengers titles....
But back to Cyclops.
I like late 70s-80s Cyke as much as I evere did.
Ditto for 90s Cyke.
Cyclops from 2k+? It ranges from neutral - to less - to so much no that I just stopped reading.
I'm obviously a fan of X-men, but I'm not a fan of Scott. However, after AvX, I just decided Scott is freaking bada##. Towards the end I just felt like wanting to punch out Captain America for everything he said. Scott made the series worth reading, and I cannot wait for him to get out of jail to lead his mutants again, while punching out the hypocritical wolverine/Cap.
"Professor X was the greatest man I've ever known." ~Captain America
Did Cap and Prof. X ever even freaking meet? Why is he trying to shove all his own wrongs toward Cyks?
"You started this war Scott." ~Captain America
Wasn't it Cap who brought a helicarrier with an army to a small island to kidnap a girl? Wasn't it the Avengers fault that the Phoenix Five went crazy? You know, the group of five who were bringing world peace?
I can go on all day, but at the end of the day its simply like this: Whoever wins the war, writes down the history.
I've never liked Scott, But knowing how he feels about having your Race becoming extinct(since mine pretty much have). I think his actions were justified.
But I still don't like him.

70s - 90s Cyclops...not a fan. Always came off as a tool who never really looked in charge. 2k and beyond Cyclops ...HUGE fan. After House of M, I felt he became the leader he never portrayed before. I think its a travesty that they now have made him out to be a "bad guy". I also agree with others who mentioned that @ no point was Ben Grimm locked up for his actions, nor was Hulk. Wanda should also have been (didn't know about the possession part, where/when was that revealed?). I honestly am just saddened by all the characters that have sacrificed so much just to be labeled as outlaws.

In Young Avengers: Children's Crusade. I was so relieved when that series explained it, because the quicker they move away from the Bendis era of Avengers, the better.
They also brought back Scott Lang (via time travel) in that series.

I liked Cyclops back when he was roaming Alaska trying to get on with his life. He was kind of relatable when he was trying his best to be a regular dude, and he just kept getting roped into things he wanted to get away from. Even in the late 80's/early 90's he was alright just being the responsible leader of the team.
The new militant/separatist Cyclops is a pain though. I don't think I've agreed with a single thing he's said since the 90's, with the exception of the Astonishing run (where he kind of reminded me of the captain from Firefly more than anything else) AvX did nothing to change that. He just seems too self-righteous.
Today is Eminem's 40th birthday and I just found out HE'S A COMIC GEEK
Before having aspirations to become a rapper, Em wanted to illustrate comic books. One of his prized possessions is an early edition Avengers comic which was given to him by a British TV host after he'd appeared on his show.
