Well, i stopped buying singles, but I do buy TPBs. I buy and follow Venom, Scarlet Spider and Journey Into Mystery. I read Spiderman monthly, but thats because my library gets new issues every month. That being said, I'll pick up a Spidey trade if the singles were super awesome and worth rereading (like Shed or New Ways To Die).
Gotta say though, I'm looking forward to reading how everything goes down in 700
I stopped buying when DC did the nu52 (though I've since snagged Suicide Squad Graphics), as both companies have pretty much underwhelmed me.
Having said that, is it several of the previous issues that explains exactly how the two main characters of the story got to where they are? As a casual my thoughts are "how in the blue is this even possible?"

I'm slowly moving away myself. The only Marvel title I'm getting ATM is "Avengers Arena," and I promised myself no new series (which I'm breaking with Keith Giffen's Threshold, since it's freaking Keith Giffen writing space stories), so it ultimately leaves 8 DC titles going into the new year as well along with DnA's Hyperbaturals.
And it will be 7 DC's after February with Morrison leaving Action Comics. Animal Man/Swamp Thing may follow suit post-Rotworld.
As for Spider-man 700, it's a good move that will boost sales for the new series. It's not a popular or easy move, but it's an interesting one considering the new Superior series. I'd be stoked if I were following the Spider-man series, but that boat sailed with OMD.
At least Doc Ock won't remember organic web shooters.
Having gotten out of comics before the Onslaught mess and then getting back in sometime during Hero's Reborn, I did do a little digging the last time they replaced Peter (with Ben Reiley). In every comic shop in San Diego the owners complained they couldn't move Spider-man with a bulldozer. Sales completely tanked, and were actually starting to drag down the rest of Marvel because of it (and hence why we got Peter back in the suit, Marvel's sales were hurting bad enough they reversed decision).

Yes, 698 & 699 cover it. You can read those (& completely skip 699.1) and be as caught up as you need to be.
But to sum it up a dying Oc programs himself into an little octobot that stings Spidy & eventually over-writes his brain and transmits(?) Parkers patterns into Ocs dying body.
But really? It shouldn't bother anyone that Parker dies & is replaced by Oc internally.
1) The hero whos' whole schtick was "With great power comes great responisbility"? He died when he made a deal with the devil.....
2) We all know that he'll get better in time for his next movie outing.
3) Clones. Skrulls. Time travel. Clones of Skrulls time traveling. And more such BS. At any moment Marvel could just have the "real" Parker walk back in.

I'm there with you. Literally buying Avengers Academy: Murderworld only after 700. Haven't read the whole thing but I've enjoyed Slott enough that even with it spoiled, I'm going to ride this thing through.
I'll monitor Superior and wait for the numbering/title/whatever switch when the movie gets closer to coming out, and then I'll check for villians I want to read.
Other than that, Marvel is getting NO DOLLARS from me anymore. I can't even bring myself to buy Guardians of the Galaxy. NINO Nova is just going to suck. You can see it coming a mile away (unless you just like art, and no story)
I'm down for Giffen doing his version of GOTG in DC.
And I'll add another indy book to my list of things besides The Goon, Thief of Thieves, and Invincible. Saga? Some other image title? GI Joe?
The problem with "Dying Wish" isn't the idea behind the story, it's the execution. Parker giving up at the end and just making Ock promise to be good is horrendous, and bringing him back in a year isn't going to change that.
Or Ock raping MJ.

Not losing any sleep over it.
Are you telling me that you're not reading the amazing titles Scarlet Spider, Venom, Journey Into Mystery and Winter Soldier? Because if not, you're missing out
Gotta agree... and it just reinforces my attitude towards comics these days. I.e. glad I don't spend the money.

I quit reading Amazing Spider-Man after "The Other", then came back for a brief stint right around the time after Marla Jameson died in "Big Time". I had to drop off once again after "Spider Island." Spider-Man is one of my favorite characters from the Lee/Ditko/Romita era. Hate to see how they have messed him up in the Modern Age. It's disheartening - and this is after having been outraged at the events of OMD/BND, Slott ASM era notwithstanding.

I find it hard to be upset by something that I can just ignore and pick up later when the silliness is over. Looking back, I should have done that with the bulk of Loeb's Hulk run until Parker took over.
I dig the concept, but not enough to buy the comics.
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?
I already got ahold of the comic as well and I just gotta say my first reaction
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Did Peter just emo him into a good person? Really?? Is that what just happened? Ock breaks down saying he didn't want this, it's too much! Ugh...
I've always loved Spider-Man and I'm going to follow this story, because I want to know what happens, but I hope that Pete's time in heaven will help him deal with some of the issues and when it's over he will have had enough of revisiting the same tradgedies over and over.

Well, considering who Peter has dealt with, is it Heaven that he's going to be visiting? Just sayin'...
I mean, was there a wager in the Marvel offices on how to one-up One More Day in the 'bad ideas' department? Really?

I've heard good things but I've got 1.) a budget and 2.) a healthy appetite for "other than Marvel" right now.
Between Wacker's (the editor on ASM and the new "cosmic books" at Marvel) comments and the nerfing (temporarily as it may be) of Peter.... I'm just not really the target audience for Marvel anymore.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be leafing through SSM. I am curious and my not getting it outright is not an indictment on what I think of Slott and his run on ASM. I've loved it.
As much as I'd love to buy and try some of those books (I've heard over and over that JiM is fantastic!), I'm trying Hypernaturals, Invincible, and Thief of Theives and enjoying them just as much.
And I'm definitely down for Threshold and Captain K'Rot. (and Keith Giffen writing).
Ah, it's part of the comic, he gets in. Meets all the people he believes he's disappointed, they tell him they're happy and proud of him, ect.
There's quite a bit of comic after that, which is more of a hallucination than anything else.
