Batman set out on the Batcycle to investigate who might have shown up with the Hyenas. He was certain neither Hyena displayed heroic behavior. That meant someone else appearing and Batman's chart suggested that the hero appearing after a hero like Captain Atom would likely be very vulnerable without support.

Many of his allies might fill that description.

He headed out North from Gotham City.

The night proceeded on without further incident until dawn when:

Day 19, Dawn: An alternate reality Earth near a replicated New York City with elements consisting of all the participating realities.

Mister Terrific was using his great mind in the service of trying to solve the mystery of the disappearing heroes and villains. It didn't make sense to him. What was the pattern? Some few JSA members were abucted , including Hawkman and his wife, Jesse Quick and Starman's son.

He should feel good that the JSA lost so few, compared to the JLA and other teams.

He didn't.

He had been working late and was not at his best due to fatigue.

Therefore; when a rift opened in front of him, he barely noticed it and stumbled through.

Story break. For continuity reasons I reedited an entire post to make more sense. Apparently I completely forgot the predicament I put Spoiler in just two posts earlier.

Thomas Elliot, alias Hush was staring at the Hudson river, wondering how he wound up here instead of in Gotham City taking advantage of Batman's absence.

He was considering crossing the river into the city when he heard a noise and saw the arrival of Mister Terrific through a dimensional rift similar to the one he arrived in.

He had little interest in other superheroes besides Batman but he suspected that he'd been brought here to test himself against this opponent. Perhaps if he won, he could return to his own mechanations.

He drew his weapons; an automatic pistol in each hand, and opened fire.

Michael Holt emerged from the rift and the first thing he saw was Hush training his pistols on him to open fire. He barely had time to order his T Spheres to erect a laser grid that disintegrated the bullets as they struck it.

Michael Holt had no idea who his opponent was because he was from Earth 2 and a member of the JSA.

For the same reason, Hush had know idea who he was up against but once he saw the high tech his opponent used against his firearms he turned and dove into the Hudson river and dove as deep as he could.

Holt rushed forward but because the water was murky, he could not see where his opponent went. He waited and watched to see if the strange person with the mummy wrapped face would emerge but after several minutes gave up because no one appeared.

Turning, he heard a blood curdling scream and rushed off into the woods to investigate.

He was gone by the time the heroes patrolling the outskirts of the city arrived.

They saw nothing untoward and continued their patrol.

Batman recruited the Huntress and the Halle Berry Catwoman to scour the countryside. He was convinced someone or someones had arrived with the two Hyenas and was determined to find them.

It was high time he worked with the other Catwoman and saw what she was capable of.

They moved North toward the city that never sleeps looking for clues that might help them locate the individual he was certain was out there.

Huntress used her dirtbike, Batman used the Batcycle and the Halle Berry Catwoman simply used her enhanced catlike powers.

They spread out using communicators to keep track of each other.

What they didn't know was that Mister Terrific was on the trail from the other end, having discovered a trail that told him that someone was in trouble and might need his help.

Paragon City woke up to the final vestiges of it's populace completed, minus the super powered members of their population. This actually meant only a fourth of the total populous had arrived because so many of the actual populous had super powers. Only the non superpowered population were brought over.

In Symkaria the final elements of it's population arrived. This freed up the defending superheroes to push on and drive off the Third Reich attackers from Symkaria, leaving Silver Sable behind to help her citizens adjust to their new reality.

Stephanie was brought into the gnoll camp, where she was dumped unceremoniously in a crude hut. She remained tied to the pole while an elderly gnoll poked and prodded her.

Stephanie was tempted to bite the gnoll's fingers when he opened her mouth and stuck the gross appendages in her mouth. She thought better of it if she hoped to escape. She had nearly worked her bonds loose and did not need to let this monster discover that.

The gnoll gave her a fearsome toothy grin that sent shivers down her spine. He licked her with his slobbery tongue and then left her alone in the hut.

She rolled around a bit to get the slobber off her then worked furiously at her bonds. She was very conscious of her nudity and felt very vulnerable because of it. She could hardly believe what was happening to her and wished somewhat irrationally that Robin might find her.

Hush managed to hold his breath and allowed the Hudson current to carry him down river.

He managed to ride the currents until he came to Brooklyn. He then swam to the edge of the river and pulled himself out. Three men in blue uniforms ran up and pulled him out of the water, then trained weapons on him and demanded he identify himself.

His weapons were tucked in waterproof pockets and inaccessible so he allowed himself to be captured.

When one of the uniforms identified them all as Shield agents he was temporarily perplexed but when two agents moved in to frisk him, he was able to overpower and disarm the agent and shoot the startled remaining agents before they could react.

He decided to take the agent he'd overpowered and interrogate him.

Ra's al Ghul could not understand why none of his League Of Assassin lackeys were minding the store. This was clearly his Manhattan base but no one was around anywhere. This did not make any sense. His fanatical followers would never abandon their posts. Why was this one not manned?

He turned on the media devices and listened. None of it made any sense until he focused on the local media and shut out the rest.

Slowly, it began to make sense. He had followed the Bat after his latest resurrection. There were others, others from different realities that now had to coexist.

Several --- innocent civillians had been transported. That explained the missing citizens of so many of the American cities.

There were great dangers surrounding the cities which, ---- which had been replicated on this strange world.

Everyone was relatively safe if they stayed within the city limits but any who ventured out to visit the other cities could only do so under heavy guard.

This was the crux of what Ra's needed to know. The Bat was here, and whether the Bat realized it or not, the Bat would need Ra's wisdom and guidance.

But first, Ra's would have to resolidify his power base. That would be difficult but not impossible. He would start here.

Michael Holt discovered tracks and decided to follow them. Whoever, or whatever left them was not concerned about being followed.

He had never seen the like. It was as if hyenas had become bipedal. It didn;t make any sense; but then, being brought against your wil to another reality was far fetched as well. Maybe he'd learn the whereabouts of the Hawks and Jesse Quick.

He stepped up his pace.

Captain Atom finally realized he'd not been fair to Wonder Man when he'd encountered him earlier. He'd grown angry, thinking Wonder Man had been giving him the run around when they met. That wasn't the case.

Nate approached Wonder Man and gave him a heartfelt apology. Wonder Man accepted and cracked a joke. "How about hooking me up with Wonder Woman when we finally get a chance to meet her?"

"Sure but you're on your own after I introduce you. She's a bit chilly."

"I'll keep that in mind."

The group resumed their defensive patrol, not realizing they'd just barely missed two new arrivals.

Brainiac 5 was grateful to be able to return to his research. The past two days had been chaotic with all the new arrivals outside of Smallville. He'd been forced to interrupt his research to advise Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad and Cosmic Boy too often.

The arrival of that "Hulk" from the other universe had been the most disconcerting. An utter brute with skin similar to a Coluan? Querll Dox shuddered. The idea was unheard of. The creature was barely intelligent! A blight by Coluan standards. He tried to put it out of his head. The thought would give Querll nightmares. Still, the story was, that his alter ego was utterly brilliant. Perhaps on Querll Dox's level himself.

The thought was refreshing and Dox began devoting his time to trying to find a way to pry Bruce Banner out of the Hulk.

Hellcat sighed as the Hulk wolfed down another huge helping of baked beans.

Everyone was giving Greenskin a wide birth because the gas he was passing rivalled his temper. Right now the Hulk was as content as any version of the Hulk had any right to be. Logically, he should have reverted to Bruce Banner by now.

This heroes assigned to "babysit" the Hulk were all groggy.

Hellcat knew she was the only one that could possibly reason with the Hulk. He trusted her. Hellcat was determined to not let him down.

Hush learned way more then he expected.

The hapless Shield agent paid the price since Hush didn't believe his story initially. When Hush finally was satisfied the Shield agent had breathed his last.

Hush decided to set himself up here and eventually overthrow this Kingpin fellow and take over the city's crime syndicates.
