R./V. Storm
any Shadowcat
R./E. Wolvie
E./V. Psylocke
R./V. Iceman
These seem mentioned the most, so let's see what I can do with them.
V. Storm and 1 of the following:
R. Wolvie
E. Gambit (I dont think the V. Gambit is 48 or less as the E. is 44)
V. Psylocke
Since R Wolverine isn't an X-Men team member, that leaves (from your list) E Gambit, and V Psylocke. Gambit is a decent choice. His A/V isn't super, but it should be okay. The problem is that Gambit is primarily a ranged combatant, just like V Storm is. So if you pair them up, you get two ranged figures, and nobody who can do a good amount of damage in hand to hand combat. Storm makes up for this by being able to use RCE (since she is a flyer) while based, but E Gambit can do at most 2 points of damage but only IF he is on his first click AND he perplexes up his damage. E Gambit's A/V drops to 7 by his 3rd click, while V Psylocke doesn't drop to 7 A/V until her 6th click. V Psylocke has a better A/V (at 10 on her first click) throughout her whole dial. She has better range (8 vs. E Gambit's 4), and B/C/F for base combat. She has better natural damage (2 for the whole dial), and enhancement to pump Storm's EE. Her defense drops off a little faster then Gambit's and ends up at a 12 while Gambit's only drops to a 13. Personally I think V Psylocke and V Storm is the better pairing for the points.
Don't get me wrong. I am a big fan of the ragin' Cajun, but I don't think the version they made of him is a good compliment to Storm. V. Psylocke and V. Gambit does make a pretty good matchup though... if you don't mind not having a flyer. I have used them in a 300 point X-Men team I played with, though the team itself has had mixed results.
V Cyclops 78
V Gambit 51
V Psylocke 45
E Shadowcat 33
E Professor X 67
R Iceman 26
300 even
In theory, Iceman is Cyclops's Taxi and Clyclops does a bunch of damage at range. If Psylocke is next to him, he can do 2 damage to 3 targets. Shadowcat is the Professor's taxi and the professor MC's anyone he can to cause mayhem. Psylocke and Gambit hang out in the bushes and do ranged damage until someone comes too close and then Psylocke B/C/F's while Gambit boosts her A/V to 11. I played this really effectively against a Batman Enemy team. I got clobbered by a Batman ally team cause none of my ranged guys could hit.
Looks like I'll be running V. Storm and V. Psylocke, assuming I can find a V. Psylocke. If not, I'll use E. Gambit to fall-back on.
On a side note, could someone explain to me how Support can be used to up damage AFTER it has been reduced to 1 when using the mult-bolt attack? IE. could someone link or cut and paste this from an FAQ or rulebook?
From the PAC: "ENHANCEMENT. This character increases the damage delivered by friendly ranged combat attacks. (Optional) Any friendly figure given a ranged combat action while in a square adjacent to this character will inflict 1 extra click of damage to any opposing figure(s) successfully hit by the attack."
Also, check the Energy Explosion part of the FAQ. It talks about using the Shield Enhancement team ability with EE. It's the same for the non-Shield Enhancement as well... AFAIK. You could take it up with a Judge if you want though.
The Good: EE and Enhancement work wonderfully together, and are very deadly in a 100 pt. game. Opponent had four figures in adjecent squares, and I ended up doing 8 clix of damage with 1 action!
The Bad: I have horrible luck with BCF. I don't like luck based attacks, but hopefully my luck will even out next time I play.
The Surprising: This team was equally efficent on both outdoor and indoor maps. With a slight advantage to the indoor maps as there is more hindering terrain for Psylocke to use to block both her and Storm from ranged attacks.
If P is in hinderint terrain, she cannot be shot. If S is behind P, she cannot be shot because P blocks line-of-sight. F cannot see P because of Stealth, and cannot see S because she is behind P.
I keep Psylocke in the hindering, and keep Storm out of it, so her movement is not hindered.
