Plus any one of these ships could be used in a sealed/purchase required event and you would like to have as many options as possible when building.
I would like to see some generic non faction cards, like Tactical Officer, or generic weapons. I don't see any reason why something like Barrage of Fire, Counter Attack should be limited to only Klingon or Romulan ships.
Agreed.
Federation "Barrage of Fire" should be included in the Ent-E as "Fire On These Coordinates".
I think the trimmed down ship idea sounds nice from the players' perspective, but since most people already seem willing to buy multiples of a ship I just don't see any incentive on WK's part to do it.
Also, rather than a trimmed down version of an existing ship, I personally would prefer a second named version, so maybe the same generic ship card and most/all of the same generic upgrades, but new unique captains and upgrades.
I would also rather they released altogether new ships, than re-used sculpts with new names, though. At least for the factions that still have unreleased sculpts or ship classes.
I wouldn't mind if they mixed things up a bit with unnamed captains, though. They could potentially release some with a higher captain skill, but still no special ability, and a relatively low point cost. I'd also like to see some non-human Federation generic crew and captain cards. Where are all the Andorians?!
I don't have a single Red Shirt. I started one month too late!
I have extra's of that and the Command Tokens. Oh wait, you can't see this post

The problem with the trimmed down ships is that Wizkids would trim them down and still charge the same price. I do like our idea of adding another named ship. I would have bought a second Reliant if it came with a Saratoga card.
I'm not sure how often I'd use a generic Captain with Skill higher than 1, but it would be a nice option.
They'd need some sort of ability to entice me. (Not absurdly powerful, but something of SOME sustance. A 2 point generic Captain with a Free Evasion if the ship has an Aux. token or something like that.)
The generic Captains now are just drones, so they don't really appeal to me.
The only time I see myself using Generic Captains is during my Jem'Hadar attack ship swarm. 5 Generic ships with 5 Generic Captains. It may not be strong and it may not win, but it'll be fun to overwhelm an enemy with that type of swarm team.

Exactly
A trimmed down version should cost less, but since people are already happy to buy multiples, what's the point in WK releasing it?

Yeah, I kind of assume, as long as the game sticks around for a while, that we'll start seeing some sculpts re-released under new names. They've already nearly exhausted their existing Klingon and Romulan sculpts, haven't they? So I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bird of Prey and Warbird sculpts, in particular, make a second appearance. The Duras Sisters seem like an obvious choice for Captains, or they could go movie-era and give us Christopher Lloyd. Sela and Sirol seem like natural choices for a Romulan Warbird.

Swarms don't work in this game for the same reason other tactics don't: Cloak. The defense is just too high. If you got an increasing benefit from attacking the same ship multiple times during the combat phase, I'd get it.

Again, It may not be strong and it may not win, but it'll be fun.
I don't really care about cloak and I'd never try this in a competitive event either where cloak is one of the more dominant forces.

It's just frustrating to me, because five ships should easily be competitive in this game. Seeing five ships simultaneously take shots at a Valdore and landing no hits is just annoying. Even in a casual game I don't have the luxury of not worrying about cloak. It's by and far the most prevalent trait of every ship I face.
Can't. 5 Jem'Hadar ships with 1 Skill Captains is 100 points exactly.

I understand that. The individual I would play this against would most likely play Federation simply because we are both huge Star Trek nerds and it would be a fun thematic battle to have.
But yes Cloak is quite powerful. I wish something could be done, but I doubt it due to the fact that in regular games Cloak can be as much a liability as it can be an asset.
Swarms just won't be effective until they can pull some good damage against Cloak, or until something comes around that makes Cloak not worth the effort/points.
