Venues can house rule it modern. Our venue does, the owner has the attitude if he sells it, it is modern legal.
Oh I know they can. My venue will be letting these pieces be played in everything except OP events. I just want to see a shift for all of Heroclix to where every set released in the last 2-3 years is modern age. I personally believe it is better for the overall health of the game.
These other sets are meant to bring in new players who normally would never have played before. Then they get them, play in a few tournaments, get pretty good. Suddenly big event that is modern age only comes around and they can't play. Not a good business strategy.
It's called golden age and if your venue sells that product why aren't your judges making events for it?
Not all venues make the formats (in fact I'd be surprised if they do anything). I think your issue is with the person organizing the tournaments.
"Venue" and "the person organizing the tournaments" (i.e. "judge") do not mean the same thing, but in the context of this discussion, they can be used interchangeably.
Some judges do work for or even own their venue, others are volunteers. Either way, it's not like a venue will have one set of houserules for Heroclix and the judge who organizes and runs the events will have another.
If your Judge says that Yu-Gi-Oh is good for Modern Age, then it's good for Modern Age; at that venue.... Other venues can feel free to do likewise, although, you should expect most to go along with the official line (that it's Golden Age) and certainly expect it to only be Golden Age at WK run events at conventions.
For my events, I might impose a condition like "only Marvel" for an event (as I'm doing tonight), but the general rule is that I don't care what property it's a part of or how old the set is.
I pretty much refuse to use the "Modern Age" and "Golden Age" labels. But I do recognize the usefulness in being familiar with them, if you're playing at multiple venues and/or conventions.
As a person who loves and prefers Golden Age I just wanted to chime in about how glad I am Yu-Gi-Oh is Golden Age.
The solution is SO easy:
500 points, GOLDEN AGE - but no. So many venues / players are so handcuffed to Pro-Modern that, finally, the stuff they want to play sits with the stuff I want to play.
So I'm glad the stuff I like has company with your stuff you like. Seems fair to me.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
Then was that special instruction sheet misprinted? If not, why even mention "Modern Age" on it?
I believe the confusion is that they were trying to say that they are completely compatible with HeroClix Core Rulebook, outside of using the Scenario Rules to simulate Yu-Gi-Oh. It was more of just a poor choice of words.

I'd say so. It could have just simply read "Yu-Gi-Oh! HeroClix are fully compatible with all other HeroClix sets, but to enrich your Yu-Gi-Oh! gaming experience...". Saying Modern Legal really set a lot of people up for disappointment.

Yep, this. Particularly the bold.
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?
can always do what I do. I have created a separate format I call Modern+ . It includes modern Age and all other heroclix sets released in the same time period. Helps sales and that should always be a big concern.
Today is a good day to die! But then, so was yesterday, and hey, tomorrow's not looking to bad either.

Ridiculous that something new is immediately retired. I included ALL new releases in my silver age tourneys. All golden age is really good for anymore is the inclusion of feats and crap like that.

*This is purely my opinion, but any venue that wont let me play what I buy wont get my money.
If venues let you play this in Modern age events, the event is no longer Modern. If the venue wants the run a modern event then they can, people enjoy modern....same for golden age.
