I would love to have a conversation about team builds that don't include the words "splitlip" or "hammer"
not because of the overstated "hammers make everyone better" but because resources make the game worse
Get a time machine. I don't think they are going anywhere for the forseeable future. They are part of the game now.
Much like Indom became part of the game. Much like traits, special powers, pink powers, the Tiny mechanic, and all the other things that have been made to advance the game, without it becoming stale and stagnant.
New venue in Hamilton, Ontario! Black Knight Games. They are willing to try us out, so let's support the Clix community, and the venue!

Overpowered is not the opposite of stale and stagnant. In fact, the dominance of resources over characters is quite possibly the best example of stale and stagnant I can think of. But that discussion is already being held in any of countless, pointless threads up in GD.

i'm searching for the negative rep button
characters are no longer the discussion in team building. , , or any of the other good, balanced, interesting mechanics you lumped in with resources is not at fault. resources are.
and resources are making the game stale and stagnant
That's sort of a conceit that goes along with articles like this. Where it's more about gameplay focused on building off the comics than worrying about shoehorning in resources, meta tactics to go along with them and otherwise competitive settings.
I don't doubt in that sort of tournament play, the Horsemen and Apocalypse might be in trouble, but against 600 points of X-Men or X-Factor lineups from that period? Doesn't seem as imbalanced.
Nailed it.
Some of us enjoy building and playing teams based on themes, costumes, eras, comics etc - and are happy with them, regardless of them not being 'ultra competitive'.
This 'Apocalypse and his Horsemen' team is a great team.
Visually they look fantastic, and as far as playability goes - the whole team offers many great and fun strategies/techniques.
IMO - THIS is the type of team that reflects the heart of the HC game.
Not that it isn't cool to play, just that it isn't competitive.

Absolutely. I've found that I improve as a player when I try 'less competitive' figures and see what makes them work. My natural inclination to want to build and play comic-inspired themes reinforces this. I do try to spend some effort in the article to point out strategies that work with the actual figures....because there are ways to make a collection of 'less-than-meta' figures work.
I've played the Horsemen (300, 400, 600) to victory against some pretty strong (but not meta) forces. In terms of comic-inspired forces, I think they still hold up.
I don't disagree-AT ALL!-but the Horsemen need more help than the +1 ATA gets them.
Alternately, you could put the Phoenix Force on them, and still do the pile of Bystanders for Apoc to MM to, and still be quite thematic.
Actually I've NEVER needed a resource or relic to dominate a field with four hypersonic attackers that cost less than 100 points a piece. If you play them correctly(in the correct order) you should be receiving multiple boost and buffs via their own specials and traits + the TA.
I have defeated many modern day figures with this team. It wasn't easy...but it was fun. I defeated a im3 war/iron duo figure with shield back up as a 400 point team. All 4 horsemen had a VERY hard time cracking that ESD but because of the sheer maneuverability and my lucky rolls...the duo never got a chance to hit war or archangel. Famine granted action tokens while based with the duo and its team and pestilence dealt poison damage as war and archangel pot shotted.
Hello, I have not seen any 1000 point Horsemen of Apocalypse (HOA) teams that keeps up with the current sets to include figures like banshee and genesis. I was wondering about using genesis ability to make the 250 Apocalypse into a horsemen but it doesn't happen until later on to make the team all consistent HOA. Any suggestions on the build below?
Banshee 98
Apocalypse 199
Hulk 199
Polaris 94
Famine 99
Pestilence 99
War 99
7 ata
phoenix force 42
(Can add your choice of feats for the balance)
