As Rann gained the rest of it's populous, Adam Warlock and Moondragon were no longer needed and they were ready to go but they found that anybody who could come get them were preoccupied with the battle between Galactus and the Spectre.

Finally Mar-Vell decided that their aid might be useful in this and slipped away to collect them and bring them back to help. Adam Strange remained behind to help the Rannians adjust.

The day progressed and the Avengers began to believe they were no longer needed and left Star City. The Teen Titans and the Defenders remained as it was assumed that they were adequate to confront any threats that arrived.

Around noon a handful of civilians appeared outside of Star City. Except one of them was a bit more then that.

Dallas Riordan, Turk Barrett and Sgt. Tork(NYPD) found themselves staring at the Sin Eater who was levelling his shotgun at them. Sgt. Tork had his service revolver aimed at the Sin Eater and it was a bit of a standoff.

Oddly, a statue and a stepladder were nearby.

The Sin Eater seemed conflicted and Tork took advantage of that to order Turk and Dallas Riordan to slowly edge away out of the line of fire.

Turk panicked and broke and ran. The Sin Eater turned to aim at the running Turk which gave Sgt. Tork his opening and he fired at the Sin Eater, killing him instantly.

The Sin Eater's shotgun fired wildly, harming no one.

When I saw Bens name I thought that he was going to be the victim.
Luke's gonna be pissed.

After Venom fled the scene where he'd slain Jessica Jones, one of the winos ran to report what had happened to a cop walking his beat. The cop notified his desk sergeant and then Checkmate was notified.

Checkmate collected the remains and notified the two Shield agents assigned to Star City.

Word was sent out to Nick Fury of Jessica Jones death while the Teen Titans and the Defenders began scouring the city for the murderer.

Nick Fury suspected that Star City was still the site for new arrivals from the Marvel Universe.

This was confirmed by the discovery of Dallas Riordan, Sgt Tork and Turk Barrett along with the recently deceased Sin Eater who had been taken down by Sgt. Tork to save Turk Barret's life.

The body of Jessica Jones was turned over to a Checkmate pathologist who worked together with a Shield pathologist that was flown in to study the body.

It was suggested by the Shield pathologist that the damage done to Jessica Jones was done by a symbiote.

This narrowed the possible suspects down quite a bit.

Venom didn't know where to hide. He stuck to the rooftops in an attempt to evade being seen. Finally, when he noticed various superheroes searching the skies for what had to be him, he scaled down to ground level and assumed the appearance of plain old Eddie Brock.

Interviews with the winos and junkies confirmed that the culprit for Jessica Jones' death was very likely Venom though it was unknown who the symbiote might be attached to as Flash Thompson was identified as free of the symbiote.

The Defenders were told to be on the look out for the Venom symbiote while a photo from the files of the Daily Bugle by Peter Parker was distributed to the Teen Titans.

Star City was put under lockdown so that citizens would be kept safe until Venom could be apprehended.

Ben Reilly caught the reports of the city lockdown and heard the description of Venom. He'd been relaxing on his hotel bed when he heard. He knew immediately that he would be best equipped to track down Venom and he immediately donned his Scarlet Spider costume to try to Apprehend Venom.

The Titans begged Mia Deardon to let them handle the search for Venom along with the Defenders.

Mia was having none of that. With the absense of Green Arrow and the Black Canary, not to mention Roy Harper, Star City was her town. Besides, wasn't she a legacy Titan as the new Speedy?

The Titans couldn't argue with that logic so Hawk and Dove were assigned to stick with her so that she wouldn't get in over her head.

As Eddie Brock, Venom was hearing a lot of odd stuff about where he was from passersby.

Eventually though, the streets seemed to clear and he found himself alone on the streets until he was hailed by passing patrol car wanting to know why he was still on the streets during the lockdown. The cops ordered him to get off the streets for his own safety.

Eddie Brock nodded vigorously that he would and tried to enter a nearby building but found it was locked. He turned around and saw that the cops were watching him closely.

He surreptitiously extended the symbiote into the lock mechanism and sprung the lock. Giving the police officers a salute he ducked into the apartment building.

The two police officers watched for another minute, then shrugged and drove off.

Eddie Brock wondered what to do next. He decided he'd hole up in this apartment complex.

He used his Venom powers to break into one of the apartments. He found a pair of young coeds living there who were terrified by him and began screaming even though he was in his Eddie Brock guise.

Their screaming unsettled him and he manifested as Venom which terrified the young coeds even more. Finally Venom abandoned his intent of hiding in the apartment complex as the neighbors began pouring out to see what was wrong.

The Venom sighting brought the Checkmate agents to high alert along with the police force, the national Guard and Reserve and the various superheroes.

Venom gave up trying to hide as Eddie Brock and began fleeing over rooftops.

He could hardly escape the attention of the high flyers and soon was pursued by Nighthawk, and Starfire.

The Scarlet Spider was on his way to intercept Venom as well.
