Disciples of the Darkhold Set-Up

Location: Calypso's chateau on a remote island in the Caribbean.

Three sinister but lithe females approach the dark home brooding over the moonlit beach. Each clad in wildly different garb. The central, leading figure, wore little at all, nothing but close-cropped animal skins with a towering thicket of black hair cascading down her shoulders and back. To her right, a glimmering beauty in the rich dress of an Asgarian courtier. The thick shadows seemed reluctant to touch her, the cloaking darkness failing to dim her figure and the starlight danced upon her red locks. To the central figure's left, a pale beauty in a clingy black dress embraced the shadows. Aside from her deeper dark, flowing hair and the occasional glints of silver from her jewelry, virtually no other details prevailed.

Two steps behind the woman a figure seemingly clad in roiling shadows followed. His features were unclear and amorphous, almost as if he simply did not wish to be seen for what he really was. Nevertheless, the shadows could not disguise his inhuman gait, which was jerky, ephemeral and overly-long all at once.

Beyond the women and their ungainly companion, a somber mob of brutish figures moved silently after.

As the group approached the chateau, the central woman held up a hand, and the group stopped before the open doors.

"What is it?" whispered the woman to her right.

"The house don't feel right. Someone here who ain't meant to be."

Disciples of the Darkhold Turn 1:

Calypso waved three figures forward from the trailing mob. "Go take a look."

The three chosen figures were perhaps once attractive women in their own right, but now their twisted and hunched forms hinted at a more bestial nature. They wore soot-stained rags and their pale skin was marred with broad, blackened burns. Their eyes glowed crimson in the starlight.

As they approached Calypso, the smallest figure hissed at the others. The central figure cuffed her on the side of her head and the hissing stopped. She turned back to Calypso and bowed. "Yes, Mistress." She then turned back to her sisters and growled before leading them inside the chateau.

Umar stepped to Calypso's elbow and flicked the black strands of hair from her eyes. "The Brides seem less, robust, then last I remember."

Calypso smiled. "Aye, damnation treats some more harshly than others. The passage back from the flames can sometimes linger."

2) Marishka follows, but diverts into the larder and lurks in the corner at G-8.

3) Aleera stays at her sister's side at I-8, but snarls a soft hiss through her teeth.

4) "Ahh, sweet Calypso. You've kept secrets from me." Lorelei turned eyes upon the hulking figure of the zuvembie vampire nearby. "Take me to the source of that thrumming power, my love."

Calypso nods softly. The vampire lays a surprisingly gentle hand upon Lorelei's shoulder and flies to J-7, setting the Asgardian in the doorway to the summoning room at K-8.

Calypso turns to the cultist standing by her side "What are you standing about for? Follow them!"

1) "Yes, Mistress." The Darkhold cultist makes an awkward bow and hastens after the vampires to F-8.

2) Calypso follows the vampires into the hall to I-7.

3) "There is a strong mind present, well beyond those typical of your meager race. I'm intrigued. Let us look upon him." Malekith waves a hand at Scarecrow, cloaking him in shadows. Malekith flies to F-7. The shadows drag Scarecrow along and deposit him before the Lord of the Dark Elves at E-8.

4) Rachel van Helsing sighs to herself and then follows to G-7.

The vampires all sniff the air (clear).

Calypso draws forth a primitive tribal drum from a pouch at her waist and whispers something to it. The Yoruba Spirit Drum begins to throb. Doom ... doom ... doom ... Calypso will use PC against the first successful opposing roll she can see.

2) Warren wheels the professor through the now obliterated wall, dropping him in F-16, himself in E-17.

3) Jean will RS to E-16, dropping Cyclops in D-15, targeting Aleera. AV 9 on DV 13, Jean needs a 4 to envelope the demon in Hellfire. Rolls: 6. Well out of range of Calypso, the spawn takes 3 and is KOed.

Disciples of the Darkhold Turn 3:

1) Scarecrow raises his pitchfork to the ceiling and cries "To me my children!" With a thunderous flapping of wings a swirling, beating, flapping murder of crows materializes within the pentagram and wings its way to Scarecrow's side -- he uses a power action to summon his murder of crows in F-9.

2) "Show them why they should fear to enter a home uninvited my pets!" Swirling about Scarecrow, screeching their soul-wrenching caws, the Murder of Crows wings its way to E-15.

3) The zuvembi vampire snatches up the glorious Lorelei and flies across the room to E-12. He sets the Asgarian behind him next to an iron sconce of burning oil at D-11.

4) Umar enacts a teleportation spell, appearing with a clap of thunder behind a hanging skeleton at L-8.

The remaining brides scream "Nooooooo!"

Malekith sneers (clears).

Rachel, Calypso and the cultist peer through the murk (clear).

Doom ... Doom ... Doom ... Calypso's PC instructions will remain in effect until I say otherwise.

1) Professor X waves his arms around frantically, rolling an 8, and connecting with a sickening crack as the first of what I assume will be many crows hit the ground. The Professor has some surprisingly sick guns.

2) Cyclops will RS to F-15 on the Thule Priest. AV 9 on DV 16, needs a 7. Rolls: 9, hits for 3 and the KO. His optic blasts lay low the hooded figure that was probably summoning crazy birds.

"Damnit Scott, that wasn't the one summoning birds! That was probably just some innocent human being mind controlled by a sorceress! God! You probably just set back Human/Mutant relations 15 years!"

3) Verona turns to Mirishka. "Kill him."

"Gladly." Mirishka stomps her way across the blood-stained carpet to Cycops' side (E-14).

4) Verona takes up position on Cyclops' other side (G-14).

1) Beast will deftly dodge the devious demons, decking the dark disciple. AV 9 on DV 13, needs a 4 to do 2 to Marishka. Rolls: 3! Defeated, Beast dumbly dumbs to J-17 where he takes a push click.

2) Cyclops will attempt to fix Beast's mistake, taking a shot on Marishka. AV 10 on DV 13, a 3 will succeed. Rolls a 10. Cyclops makes a fool of Beast, using his famous judo skills.

3) Jean will RS to H-17 carrying Cyclops to G-18, targeting Scarecrow with Psychic Blast. Shape Change: 3. Attack: 6. Professor PC: 6. Jean is just as inept as Beast, it appears.

Disciples of the Darkhold Turn 5:

1) "AHH HA HA HA!!!! You fools, now you will know true fear!" Scarecrow again uses a power action to summon his Murder of Crows from the Brimstone Abyss (appears in H-15).

2) "Let us show them why they fear the unknown my pets! Show them!" The Murder of Crows swirls over Scarecrow's form, lifting him with their talons and flies to I-18. They set their master beside the pretty lady in the hall at H-18.

3) The zuvembi vampire lifts aloft the Asgardian sorceress and flies down the hall to I-17. He sets her behind the sputtering Beast at J-18.

4) "Ah, and you tried so hard. Pity you're not worth my time." Umar turns her back on Angel and shifts to her astral form. She strides away without looking back to I-13.

Malekith smiles at Umar (clears).

The Brides gaze at the open doorway and their missing prey (clear).

Calypso chuckles to herself (clears).

Malekith mind controls Black Queen (she does not share a key word with the Professor, so no shape change). 10 AV vs 17 DV, needs a 7. Roll is [3, 6], hits. Malekith gains 1 SA.

Jean turns to Scott. "Liar!" She backhands him. Shape change roll is -- 2, fails. 8 AV vs 16 DV, needs an 8. Roll is [5, 1], misses.

2) Calypso steps closer to D-12.

3) "Do they mistreat you, repulsive one? Perhaps you need a new master." Lorelei mind controls Beast. Shape change roll is -- 3, fails. 9 AV vs 16 DV, needs a 7. Roll is [2, 6], hits. Beast's super senses roll is -- 6, succeeds. He shakes off the enchantment.

4) "AHH HA HA HA!!!" I can feel your fear!" Scarecrow pushes to again summon his Murder of Crows to I-18. He takes 1 click of push damage.
