I'm thinking no. Normally the active player chooses how simultaneous actions resolve but since KO causes immediate resolution the player can't choose to supersede this, imo.
If I had to guess I would say same square.
No clue about "instead" pieces as I don't think we ever got an official breakdown of what instead means.
How so when a character gets damaged. Soes the token get applied after the damage or before? How does it work compared to mystics?
Is it more like when you would deal damage mystic or virus token is applied or do you do one of the abilities after damage is applied. 2 game effects can't activate at the same time so Player priority has to decide, if you place a token before damage is dealt then the damage wasn't dealt yet so How can you?
As I understand it it would work like this. Zombie attacks mystic n hits for say 2 damage that triggers both virus n mystic the player who's turn it is gets to pick what triggers 1st so I would go for virus 1st mystic 2nd the if the mystic is ko it's regenerated under my control but not before my zombie would take his click of mystic damage.

But those triggers don't happen until the damage is TAKEN and if the dial shows KO than that piece is IMMEDIATELY removed which I'm betting trumps the active players choice.
Dose damage need to be taken in order to ko a fig? Yes. That's when the effect happens if it went the way your saying then if a mystic got ko'd then there would be no mystic damage but there is isn't there.

The mystics effect still goes on when the dial is turned and I believe it still gets to resolve even if the source is gone but I don't think the active player has a choice in the order in regards to anything resolving before the KO/removal.
The link in my sig line is a step for step break down of the turn order and altho lengthy, can be helpful.

yeah thats what im wondering. Last night player used some zombies but due to the wording i was thinking would they infect someone if they killed someone in 1 hit for an example Weasel from Deadpool is quite easy to ko with 1 attack.
Later that night at the house I was looking it up trying determine would the character turn to a zombie or not due to the timing.

ZOMBIE INFECTION: When Villain Zombie damages an opposing character, give that character a Virus token if it has less than 5 Virus tokens. When an opposing character is KO'd by this character, you may add it to your force, turn to its first KO click, remove all of its Virus tokens and heal it that many clicks.
If a Villain Zombie attacks and kills an opposing fig that fig would receive a Virus token at the time they were dealt damage. Assuming that the VZ's attack is what caused the opposing fig to be KO'd they would then resurrect. You can't choose to be KO'd in advance of taking the damage.
Darius and DavidPaul are right... the damage is dealt (which assigns the token) before they can be KO'd. If a figure with no tokens is dealt the killing blow by a Zombie, then the KO'd figure is resurrected as a Zombie... this has already been established and ruled on.
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????
