So Attack-Wing has *blind* boosters ?
And those are somehow LE prizes ?
If true... I'm glad i stick to x-wing...
No, their intended purpose is to be used to add a blind 30 point ship build to your pre-built team. So people like the idea and others do not. Those that do not are trying to come up with alternative ways to distribute those blind ships to their players as there is no other way to get those particular ships.

There are blind boosters now (with more coming in the fall, it looks like). There are 5 ships. Each player gets one (presumably at random) to add to his/her force. Yeah, they're LEs but everyone will get one of the five (dunno if that's good - you at least get one...or bad - there are 5 to track down).
Its a weird setup. And like you, I'm glad I'm not involved.
There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.
Our group is looking to just make the blind boosters prize support rather than part of the format. The boosters will be opened, and players will get to select the ship(s) they want using boomerang style; first, fellowship, second, third, etc, etc pick one until the last player picks two and we go back up the list with each player picking one ship, repeat until all players have the same number of ships.
On a side note, if Wizkids does go fully blind boosters, I know I will be dropping this game like a hot piece of metal. I am already considering dropping out after the Collective.

To clarify, there are 5 different ships, and 10 blind boxes per brick - 2 of each ship - so you have a fixed, even rarity scale between them. In that regard, I guess WK did the blind boxes about as best as they could have - no common ships, no rare ships. Why they had to do blind boxes at all, though...
Players buy one at the beginning of each of the 3 OP events, so to get all 5 you will have to attend more than just your store's 3 games, or trade/buy on the secondary market.

I'm thinking the blind part is more because of the suggested format than anything else. That way, there is no point in fighting over getting to the head of the line to pick 'the best' boosters/ships.
We've seen the colored flight bases for sale on retail. And the Fighters (or some version of them) have been spoiled as part of the last 2 known (at this point) waves of ship releases. So it wouldn't be too far off to think that these blind boosters may find their way into retail in a non blind format.

To get (pieces people want to play) will have to attend (...) or trade/buy on the secondary market = all the reasons i'm not getting involved in another collectible game ever
(X-wing is NOT collectible, you can buy everything from regular store, never "have to" attend anything nor rely on secondary market)

If the game was well-balanced enough, there would be no "best" ship and everyone could pick the ship he has not yet purchased OR the faction he prefers = would be better IMO
I don't understand the concern except for one thing...what do you do with extra boosters? My thoughts are A) use them as additional prize support B) let the Store sell them as they want to or C) save them for another event. the initial set up should be a simple blind booster /sealed deck event. the ships are all pretty solid...the only "hot" ship is the fed one due to the new sculpt. Players #####ing that they got the "crappy" ship? welcome to sealed deck. In no way should Boosters be opened ahead of time and players allowed to pick.
Sealed is my favorite clix format, so I'm excited about the semi-sealed Attack Wing. I'm at least marginally interested in all 5, so I'm not sure how I'd approach it. I'd lean toward some sort of dice-off, but I know some people would not be satisfied.
When I first heard about the sealed boosters I was livid enough to consider quitting the game. Now that I have seen them and seen the distribution model I am glad I didn't because the semi sealed format looks incredibly fun. Also there are some awesome ships in those packs.

IMHO, a store needs to be smart about their ordering. If they have 10 players per event, cool. No extras.
If they go into month 3 with extra boosters left over:
1. Look at your monthly attendance.
2. Do you have enough left over boosters to cover that?
3a. If so, no not order a brick for month 3 unless you are okay holding onto the boosaters until WK lifts the "No Sell" requirement ala Fear Itself.
3b. If not, order a brick.

Totally agree. I love sealed and am really looking forward to this format. I had a great time in the little sealed, mini-tourneys at GenCon last year and think this will be a great way to handle sealed in STAW.
I'm a big fan of sealed, it forces you to be able to evaluate tactics and builds on the fly and improvise, which is a skill I feel like a lot of the min/max players don't have, and forces the theme purists to flex muscles they don't normally use much.
But then, I was always really good at HeroClix sealed, hah.

That's definitely something that I used to like about sealed games in HC, but unfortunately in this case, with a 3:1 constructed:sealed format, I don't see it having the same effect.
People will still min/max the 90-point constructed portion of their fleet, and then just plan ahead for what configuration of each of the 5 blind box ships they like. I don't think there's going to be a lot of "on the fly" team building, the way there is in an HC sealed game, due to the fairly narrow range of possible blind box contents.

The problem with this game having a true "Sealed" format is that the venue would need to take all the ships and put them in bags or something to block then hand them out randomly.
Also there are certain ships that are horrible by themselves *Romulan Science Vessel*.
Personally I do like the idea, hopefully everyone will get what they want. As far as what to do with extras, save them for other events or have another sealed!!

Agreed, I don't think that the idea of sealed games is a bad one in general, I just really don't think that STAW is a suitable game for them. You would need a greater range of variety within packages than this game has for it to work well, IMO.
