You didn't read what A_B said and what he is saying is based off of a ruling given by Wizkids.
Now granted I think that ruling was made foolishly and rashly due to the fact that without it you could possess the Trinity of Sin Team Base, but currently the ruling is that any traits that alter your combat symbols are not active during force construction. Those that alter your keywords during force construction do work.
And before someone says it, no this is not a reversal on the Nightwing/Gandolf ruling.
From the new Rules Forum:
Quote
No. Unless the Trait specifies otherwise, Trait effects are not active during force construction. During force construction, Hal Jordan and Sinestro have the duo symbol, so they would not be able to be assigned an entity. Once the game has begun, the Trait will be active and they can be possessed by entities during the game.
The way I read that since keyword traits do not specify that they are active during force construction they no longer function for ATAs and Theme Teams. That would include almost every trait that grants keywords. I don't think they thought this ruling through very well.
All characters possess the symbols printed on their combat dial during force construction.
During force construction, a trait granting an alternate combat symbol is not yet used by the character (characters can only use game effects after forces are revealed currently), so the trait would not give them during force construction when the entity can be assigned.
Midway through the game, if an entity were run at full points and KO'd, at that time it could be assigned to Shazam (and Black Adam) at 140 points or Hal(/Sinestro) at 100 or whatever lower point option they have.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up, A_B. Not a strong thread for me; I'll have to keep a closer eye on the new Rules forum in the future.
Pineappolis: Periodically failing to devise a worthwhile signature since 2010.

So here is what they said;
Unless the Trait specifies otherwise, Trait effects are not active during force construction
Here is what these powers say in general, the ones that don't are errata'd or if they aren't then they aren't meant to work during construction.
WELCOME TO THE LEGION: When you build your force, choose one character of 50 points or less. That character gains the Legion of Super Heroes keyword and "wing symbol" this game. If your force includes other characters with this trait, you may increase the point value of your chosen character by 50 points if this character doesn't use this trait.
A MOTLEY ARMY FROM ALL NINE REALMS: When building your force, if Duhg is the highest-point character, other characters that share a keyword with him also have the Duhg's Army keyword.
So there we can see the power says it triggers "When building" so it is in effect from then on as the power calls for. This is why it is different than Sinestro/Hal's power.
If their power said;
When building if this piece started at 100 give it ....
then it might allow for something different but as it is currently ruled these things aren't active until he begins the game.
I'm not sure you're correct at that last point since they still have duo printed on their base, but the point is academic anyway since as a pre-WoS figure they can't be possessed.
Wait where does it say that pre-WoS figures can't be possessed?
Wait where does it say that pre-WoS figures can't be possessed?
The figure being possessed needs to have click numbers because of the wording of Possessed.
POSSESSED: Click the Possessor's dial to the same click number as this character and change it during the game in the same way that this character's dial changes. At the beginning of each of your turns or after this character takes or is healed of damage and actions resolve, you may choose 1 power showing on one Possessor's dial and 1 combat value on one Possessor's dial higher than this character's printed combat value. This character can use that power and modifies that combat value by +1 until your next turn or until it is healed or takes damage. If the Possessor is turned to a KO click, it is removed from the game immediately.
They don't have click numbers printed on their dial (wasn't instituted until WoS). No click numbers, no Possession.
First set to include click numbers on the dial was Blackest Night starter. Same deal applies though.
If you actually read the text on Possession I would make the argument that nothing explicitly excludes figs without the numbered clix, they're just not clearly marked. In tournament play disallowing Entities on older figs is fine, but in casual play I would not deny someone the use of an Entity over something so minor. When deciding on ways to enhance golden age figs I much prefer the Entities over Resources or FCs because by comparison they're much easier to keep track of.

You are, of course, free to ignore any and all official rules of your choice when playing at home, but as far as the official rules of this game (which is really all that should concern this particular sub-forum), entities on a figure without click numbers is a no-no

You do not check for click numbers during assignment. Nothing prohibits assignment to figures without click numbers. The game just has a tough time handling how the Possession trait functions once the game begins.

The ruling from the Rules Team does.

You need to stop saying this. You are literally doing those who aren't that we'll versed in the rules a disservice. This only complicates it for people who have learning and reading comprehension handicaps.
You cannot assign an Entity to a figure without click numbers and you know if your figure has click numbers during force construction.
I like you A_B but purposely confusing people and purposely stating incorrect rules is just wrong and greatly upsets me. Please refrain from doing so moving forward.

No. Entities may only be assigned to characters with click numbers. If a character does not have click numbers, it may not be assigned an entity.

Subject: Entity Possession
Hi,
Can characters without printed dial numbers be possessed by the Entities from War of the Light?
NTITY POSSESSION: When Entity would be KO'd or, if you pay 25 points when building your force, place Entity on another friendly character's card if that character is 25 points or more, has the "fist" or "sharpshooter" symbol, the "shield" or "indomitable" symbol, and the "tiny" or "burst" symbol. That character has Entity's keywords and can use the Possessed ability with this character as the Possessor. When that character is KO'd, Entity is removed from the game.
Thanks,
Joe Gualtieri

You keep stating it like its fact that I am incorrect without explaining why I am incorrect.
I see the email Joe quoted. Thank you, Joe. That is helpful.
