Nice review. All the Guys have been too much or not enough.
1st Guy caused me to rage. D75 @ 110 pts was at least worth trying to play.
The 88 pointer looks closest to what I'd like but he should be a little more expensive and needs a few tweaks.
Thanks for the article. Guy has always been my favorite Lantern and I could never get my hands on the 75th version. Getting multiple Guy figures was a big draw for the WoL for me.
Excellent Review! I was hoping Guy would pop up at some point.
I agree on DC75th Guy 100%. I hated the paintjob but loved the figure, so I subsequently acquired three of him. One is a properly painted Red Lantern, one is painted as a Green Lantern, and one is painted as JLI 90's Guy, who had the Yellow Ring and was wearing jeans, a leather jacket, and boots (specifically from Death of Superman storyline.)
A lot of players miss the subtle interactions between the Red Lantern Corps and the Red Battery's Emotional Spectrum ability. More still, can't follow the value when I explain it. When a character is granted Giant Reach, they also pick up the Carry Ability, which works really well when you have a bunch of Walkers, especially with all that Sidestep and Poison the Red Lanterns have.
Red Guy's Base is the one I've chosen for my Chainsaw Barney mod. It's glorious.
My favorite use for 90 pt. Guy is to give him a Scissor and Butcher. He's able to stack his Mega-Move, Precision Strike, Exploit Weakness, Battle Fury, and Butcher Blades, which will always meet or beat his base damage value anyway. For 123 points, he's a serious threat, and can sink huge damage into just about anything without Invincible.
"It is a fool's prerogative to utter truths that no one else will speak." "Prove you have the strength and courage to be free."
My biggest disappointment is that 88 point Red Lantern Guy doesn't have JLI keyword, as all of the other Guy Gardners have it, and I'd like to play all of them together as a Guy Gardner theme team, for 700 points. Or throw in SOG Ice, DC 75 Ice and White Lantern Ice, and SOG Fire for a 1000 point team, making the most of their "If character A is next to Character B" type powers. At 976 points, it wouldn't be a bad team (and still leaves room for a hammer or relic), but would need theme Prob, I think, to be really good.
Awesome! Thanks for writing up a piece on Guy. Glad ya liked my suggestion. I sure loved reading the article. I thought Kyle was pretty cool, but Guy has always been my favorite since I picked up JLI when I was younger.
Ya think we'll ever get a Warrior Guy? That'd be fun to see (I'd bust up if they gave him 1 click of Shape Change for when you know what happened to him ever so briefly lol)
I should add that I've used both the WoL Red Guy, WoL Green Guy and SoG Guy and although I think Red is a whole different thing, it might be my favorite for points and damage output... but I gotta say WoL Green Guy is a monster. I only have the Shape Change and the RCE constructs, but he is a monster with Shape Change on him. I'm hoping to trade for at least one more construct as I couldn't make it out to most of the events. I can only imagine how brutal he'd be with all of em
thanks for a great article about the great lantern
I quickly fell in love with sog guy. he always brings it every time he's fielded, and for some reason he seams to always get knocked onto his sweet spot, click 4, and my opponent has a hard time taking him down from there
wol104 has quickly become a favorite for me and may actually have me not reflexively reach for sog all the time
2 thoughts on dc75 guy:
*they really should have made a green LE. just saying
*the key to pulling off his topdial is to plant him in hindering and ping away with an 11/4 while sitting on a 20 defense. this pretty much forces you're opponent to come base him. 'course it doesn't hold near as well these days with your hammer-whatsis and entity-mabobs. but back in the day when it was all on the dial, it was the bee's knees[/oldmanrant]

then you could field him with ha035 loki and cw208 ultron

Just a comment, you mentiom that the 75 aniv guu gardner appeared in war of light but that is wrong, he became a red lantern when kyle died saving the GL from the black lantern corps. His rage was big enough to become a red lanterm and he really gave a lot of problems to the GLC.
I just took the sculpt from Justice League Guy and put it on top of a DC75th FCBD Hal dial. Makes a damn fine Guy piece to play with. Never needed a newer one.

Semantics...I consider that entire period to be part of one major storyline.

Guy is my favorite character in comics. I did a yellow ring guy and warrior guy dial design for dial h but didn't get good scores. Thanks for the Gardner love. I like him even though he played college football at U of M.
