This guy is a must-have to complete an original Brotherhood team, with ATA, for a 300 point build. That reason alone puts him on the "need" list.
Everything else is just gravy, and what tasty gravy it is.
Between MC and MM to opposing figures, this guy could be dealing a deceptively hefty amount of damage.

Reason: Mistyping, NOT misspelling...

@DarthUr: Did your Post/Link to the 9 year old design go over everyone's head? Phenomenal and to think you nailed it in THAT thread too, LoL. I agree with @Department H as well in that the Creative Corner probably gets looks from either those directly involved or that have influence or the ear of those that do (make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Set already!) I remember that the GsX Blob sculpt was an obvious and EXACT duplicate of a Custom Sculpt from like a year prior here on HCR (it was an instructional Thread/Sticky, even ... I think) Sorry I'm too lazy to find that Thread but I'm sure one of you wizards on here can find it. Finally, I also agree with @charlesdward that there is no true Brotherhood of Evil Team without Mastermind (I always wondered why he wasn't on the Team Base to begin with ...)

Ok, am I somehow blocking out where it says how to give Thrall tokens in the first place? It has abilities that move them, react off of them, etc...but no way to actually generate them.
@BruceAlexander1988: Thrall tokens are only assigned through Mastermind's use of MC, and only one can be in play at any given time. You can assign a Thrall token through MC, even if there are intially none that could be removed.

I originally thought only one thrall token could be in play, but after hearing the arguments of others, I definitely feel otherwise now. The way the power is worded, the token removal and given parts may be two separate events. Also, when you read the other powers, they reference his effects with the token for multiple characters. ALL characters with token are adjacent for mastermind, and draw a line of fire from ANY character with his thrall token.
With multiple tokens on the field, this guy will easily earn his points. Im going to love teaming him with zombie magneto and new scarlet witch, then watch the opposing force kill itself from within.
@dasaul29: I stand corrected. I somehow read "any" as "all" in regards to his SP. I suppose that you can choose to remove 0 Thrall tokens (0 is still a value), and keep adding them to hit targets.
Nowhere does it say that the initial thrall tokens are given through his mind control. Are you all just assuming this?
it's terrible wording.

Master Illusionist: Mastermind can use Mind Control as if he has a range value of 9. When he does and hits, if the opponent's force has two or more characters on the map, after actions resolve, you may remove any of Mastermind's Thrall tokens on that force and give the hit character a Thrall token.
The first time the "any" tokens you remove is zero.
It took me 3 read-throughs of the card to figure that out.
The delicious thing about his Mastermind special is that he can Mind Control a big target adjacent to himself, make it a Thrall, and keep it locked down. Unless it has Precision Strike or Pulse wave, they can't attack him or else he will dump their own damage back on them.
I must confess I ran him this weekend and was well impressed. The flexible outwit/ prob combined with range 9 mind control and mastermind shennanigans is great fun. Backed up with zombie magneto's tk for positioning and willpower he's a delight to run and performed above expectations. Had him cripple cyclops courtesy of cable. Also took over in a game vs mystics, saved us taking damage :)
I got to play this guy last night with Black King and Black Queen, an even 400 pt Hellfire Club theme team. The low attack, low defense made this guy unable to hit a character to be able to mastermind the damage off, and shape change alone means he pretty much has a one in three chance of not getting killed in one shot. He works fine on games where all the other guys are smaller than him. Fun against Dormammu and all his free zero point mindless ones. Otherwise I found him to be a waste of 75 points. (Black King and Black Queen, on the other hand, are amazing, except a bit too outwitable.)
Mastermind's archnemesis? Mr immortal! He's no one's patsy (also vehicles). Really wish he could also attach to hellfire club teambase (in black queen's slot), both for accuracy and as a nice theme for the op kit he was in
@davidacuna I believe you may give a Thrall token to any character hit by his mind control as long as the opponent has at least two figs on the map. I recently got this guy and can't wait to try him out. His mastermind and mind control shenanigans are very much my style.
