Crap! This is not good news for me. I got out of XWM as there was no one really playing it locally and I really did not like the limit of two sole factions (I like variety in what I can play so the numerous factions in STAW appealed to me more).
The local scene has picked up a little bit now. Scum almost pulled me back into XWM but I've fought that urge thus far. If this new starter actually provides a fourth and fifth faction to choose from, I may cave.

Welcome back to the dark side, enjoy the cookies fine sir!
You can clearly see that the new X-wing has Boost and a 4 green straight. Neither of which is on the original X-wing. The TIE also says TIE/FO. So, different ships. Likely T-70 X-wing and TIE/FO Fighter.
EDIT: Looking at the Reddit images, 3/2/3/3 does look right on the X-wing.
So a new variant of the X-Wing or TIE, costed appropriately then. I'm OK with that. In fact, I probably like it more than shoe-horning a "variant" into an existing model by way of a title. This way gives them more flexibility with the ships stats.
It also makes sense story-wise. 40 years have passed since we saw those ships. Of course they'd be improved upon in that time.
There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.

I doubt that the new stuff will be their own complete faction for quite a while. One ship does not make a real diverse faction. Perhaps Wave IX will do it, but until then, I am guessing that you will be able to use them with the Rebels and Imperials.
As for the game, Wave VII and VIII will be making it a very interesting game.
