They aren't considered a part of the story. That being said, if you play a game with a mesh of marvel, DC and other, it doesn't ruin anything. Post your results and I'll just ignore the parts that aren't technically in the story!

My goal is to have as many participants as possible, so I'm in favor of any ting that supports that goal.

... so how would one go about playing one of these official games? is it played in the pbp section? also would someone for example take control of the justice league indefinitely? sorry I'm just trying to figure out logistics for this.

Where do you post the results of this game of epic proportions?

All results should be posted to this thread exactly in the way pandaman101 did! As for a deadline to have an impact in the story, The second Wednesday after I post the article (December 16th) is when I will be taking the results to incorporate them into the next event.

An 'official' event is my fancy way of saying an event that follows the parameters I stated at the start. If your at home with a buddy and you decide to play this scenario, then it's an official event. If your judge decides he likes these scenarios and makes this an event for one of your tournaments, than it is also an official event.

This is not a play by post event as I suspect that wouldn't attract as many people. I suppose you could do it in that format, but it might be difficult to meet the deadline.

Nobody will get permanent control of a team. In future events, when you can pick from a variety of different teams, you may get the chance (I will PM you) to make an important decision based on what team you played. This week, five random participants will get the chance to make five fairly large decisions for the campaign.

Finally, definitely post your results here, DO NOT pm them to me. I want to make sure this event is active, and the best way to do that is to have lots of people seeing lots of other people participating!
