CLOSE COMBAT EXPERT Give this character a power action. It makes a close combat attack against a single opposing target character; modify this character’s damage value by + 2 for the attack. This power can’t be used when using an object as a weapon.

For a very long time, objects could not be used (a hold over from the original "no other powers may be used" wording that causes headaches for the original HT Batman). But as you can see above, this changed in 2011.
Yup. Original wording for CCE said that it couldn't be used along with anything else.

When holding an object with Super Strength, it must be used in any close combat attack (unless the figure says otherwise), so you even have to use it when you Quake if you're holding one, even though it gives you no benefit (on most figures) because the damage is locked at 2. That catches people by surprise sometimes on figures with traited SStr or when they drop a Hammer from the Book.
[edit]: Wow... quadruple ninja'd!
Super Strength + CCE goes all the way back to Hypertime with both Bane and Doomsday. Which was also before the "rule of three", but the PaC specifically stated that CCE could not be used with objects.
And actually, back in the day, objects added to the damage being dealt, not the damage value of the attacker, so they were a way around the rule of three. (Just not along with CCE.)
That's why this guy:
Was such a big honking deal.
5 based damage + 3 Perplexes + the Soda Machine = 11 damage with Exploit Weakness.

I was trying to remember the max damage with him a few weeks ago... 12 with a Crit-Hit. Instant KO at the time for any figure without SSenses or a Colossal dial.
I actually played him on a Future team with the other KC figures I had shortly after the Battery came out (so Flash, Magog, and Shazam could get WP)... GL TK'd Magog up and Magog one-shotted whichever figure my opponent moved close enough with an Ultra-Heavy, then watched as my opponent scrambled to KO Magog as I ripped them apart bit by bit with the rest of my team. First (and only) time I've ever used KC GL for TK. LOL!
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????

Mastermind too. It was the prevalence of alpha-strike figures like Magog in the meta that made LAMP teams as much of a thing. (And why Protected was such a game changer.)
Of course Magog was mostly notable for his crazy damage potential, the real alpha-strike kings were the ones with longer swings. It could actually be fun playing against a Magog tentpole and using tie-ups, outwit, etc, to effectively shut him down.
If you go back to IndyClix you couldnt even increase the Damage Value with Perplex...

CLOSE COMBAT EXPERT (optional): Give this character a power action. It may make a close combat attack against a single target. If this character does so, increase its damage value by 2. This character’s damage dealt is not increased when using objects as weapons. No other powers may increase this character’s damage value or damage dealt when this character uses Close Combat Expert.
If you go back far enough HyperTime CCE had the awkward wording "This power does not work with other super powers (such as Super Strength or Enhancement)."
"A Jester unemployed is nobody's fool." - The Court Jester "And so he says, I don't like the cut of your jib, and I go, I says it's the only jib I got, baby!

Like I said... it gave us the Batman headache
