I already don't like this. What are the odds of two vanilla villagers?
Same as the previously posted wolf odds with the numbers flipped.
86% chance of there being at least one vanilla townie.
4/7 (57% chance) for a vanilla townie role to fall into the player list. Assuming one has done so, there's a 3/6 chance of the other vanilla role doing the same. So 29% chance of two vanilla townies making it into the player list. (There's also a 29% chance of two wolf players).
Of course, these percentages get modified based on your knowledge of your role pm.
For a vanilla townie, the second vanilla townie role has a 50% chance to exist. 3 player slots. 3 empty slots. So I'm not surprised to see a second townie claim.
For any town power role, the initial vanilla townie has a 50% chance of existing (3 remaining player and empty slots) and the second townie only has a 40% chance of existing (2 out of 5 remaining slots going to players) for a net 20% chance of two vanilla townie players. Hence your surprise.

Also, if you are not claiming seer, that makes you either a vanilla, a robber, or a wolf.
I don't see why a robber would lie and claim vanilla town in this situation.
1) The robber and troublemaker present the possibility of a player having a win condition they are not aware of that is in fact opposite of their stated win condition. This is the main reason I haven't bought 1NUW. Knowing there is a possibility of switching alignments at any point (mafia with a cult, BSG) is one thing. Never being informed of your win condition change is another. I have no idea how to handle that possibility and would be rather annoyed if I pulled off a masterful wolf lynch only to find out I was turned into a wolf so I lose.
2) There is no nightkill, no previous day's lynch, no stack of info gatherers and blockers and draggers and things to claim and counterclaim. Our normal methods of scumhunting have all but been eliminated.
3) A falseclaim of seer or a lucky seer targeting or a bold falseclaim or false counterclaim may narrow our suspect list down to two very quickly, accuser and accused.
4) There is a 42% chance of a wolf being unassigned and a 14% chance of both wolves being unassigned.
Thoughts, gentlemen?
What you mean? you mean the game is not balance? you mean the game is too easy? or too hard to get the goal?
