Lol, our local judge got a full set of the LEs, no complaint from me.
That's because you're a good person and realize judges do a lot for very little.

That was for 2 boosters, 1 for each of 2 separate Battle Royals, plus Massachusetts sales tax. And that's part of the problem, that more was charged than the suggested format. And I don't think that judges should get nothing. I'm 40 years old, and am well aware that time is money. I would have been OK with him inserting himself in the draft, even taking first pick! A whole set though? After charging double for the event? That's unreasonable.
Yikes. Not cool...

Here's the WK entry on the prizes:

Where exactly are you getting that there were 16 prizes slated for the players? I only see 8.
The other 8 are the venue's to do with whatever they wish.

The judges getting designated nothing from the event is awful. My venue had 8 people show up to play at the final event, so everyone got a grand prize. The judge took a full set. No complaints here, even though like Ignatz_Mouse said, that's a bit more than he should have.
Was it announced in advance that there would be two Grand Prize packs for month 4, and that both would be offered as prizes?
If it was, and the venue/Judge went back on this statement, then it would be obvious that the venue/Judge are in the wrong.
If it was never communicated to the players involved in Months 1-4 that there would be a second grand prize kit available at the conclusion of month 4, then I think you may be overreacting to not having access to something you were never promised.

Some judges do. Taking an ENTIRE LE set on top of the other shizzle? Not in my book it aint. Not cool....Dink move. Period.
All I can say is..... Wah! Water under the bridge, when the prizes were giant serpents or batcaves, the judge got a prize. As far as I'm concerned, these 9 figures are the same as one giant figure.
Two (2) sets of eight (8) Marvel HeroClix: Civil War limited edition figures for players to draft at the end of the event (see Prizing tab for more details)"

He was questioning where you were getting your numbers which I had already been questioning myself.
If I understand you correctly, your venue was charging $about $36 per booster to play in these events. Is that correct?
As mentioned in my last post, it was a 2-booster format at the venue. This also resulted in people filling the set before month 4 (if they played more than one venue) so boosters were bought knowing that none of the pieces inside were needed.
I had even asked at the start of the game "Did we get one or two prize packs?" and was told "Two."
Nothing was said about judge prizing until Grand Prize Draft time.
The second set of prizes has widespread been used as a judge prize. The booster pricing is bad, yeah, but I don't think you are in the right about the grand prizes.

I may disagree with your opinions, but I will always respect them.
I'm not surprised by that judge I've known him for awhile and it's not the first time he's prized himself out first. I remember him taking a fellowship prize from someone because he didn't like them.
I asked about how the prizes are given out in another thread about a week ago, and I was told that there *is* an official way, but that venues are allowed to basically do what they want. It is obvious that this policy can be exploited (and in your case, it was). Bummer man
Question for the masses: Could he report his Judge to WK? Would anything be done if he did, due to the policy?
C
Actually, I just found the "official" way, which I apparently missed the first time I went over the documents.

At the end of the Event Series, players will draft from a Grand Prize prize pool based on their rank order standings of total Tournament Points— use the Grand Prize Draft Order column to rank order players based on their final standing. Eligible players each draft a single prize.
So, "officially", players shouldn't have gotten more than one Grand Prize figure. The OPs event had 7 people, so really, that wouldn't have even been a full set being given out. At that point, any leftover prizes can be used at the venues discretion. If they decided to give it to their Judge who organized and ran 4 months of events, without any other compensation, that's their prerogative.
Now, if they had had more than 8, maybe there'd be a valid complaint.
Also, I've been seeing people saying the cost was $16.99 for months now, and I keep correcting them. It was just $16, guys. Its right there in the info.

How so? If the entire 2nd set was 'flex' prizes, who are you to determine the 'correct number' of figures the Judge would get.
Do you feel that he only deserved a percentage of the total prizes? Why? Because the players should get more? Why again? Just because it was 9 individual figures this time that ~could be~ divided up, so you want more of a chance at more figures for yourself?
Had this been 1 colossal figure, would you think the Judge only deserved a percentage of it?
