Could I suggest increasing the transparency of the hour-glass timers shadows? Maybe giving them a slight yellow tint?

I'll have to see. They are a lighting rig cheat. The Hourglasses are not casting the shadows as it got too hard to get the lighting on them right. So they are lit separate and there are two "cardboard" cut out shadow caster versions.

It's not my greatest looking work, but I'm pretty proud of the lighting rig for it (the clouds and unseen building silhouette really complicated things in particular)
