If nowhere else, morphing and cyber jar are staples in burn. In my burn deck (soon to be updated for the next format) I can't tell you how many times Morphing/Cyber jar have saved me the duel. I'll give you three examples. These examples will also attest as to why Book of Taiyou is restricted to one and why I am so mad about that.
Example one. I'm playing a tournement duel. My opponent is playing some sort of Chaos/Phoenix hybrid with Jinzo, Lava Golem, and a couple of other burn cards. On his first turn of the first duel, he lays Wave Motion Cannon down. I immediatly know this duel has to end quick because I don't play any removal in my main deck. I stall and wait, trying to rally an offense against my opponent. Finally, the chance comes. Earlier in the duel, my opponent had activated Cyber Jar, it was in his graveyard. I used shallow grave to special summon a Des Koala. The only monsters in his graveyard were Cyber and Sinister Serpent so he gets his cyber. I Book of Taiyou his cyber and get four monsters off of it to his one. One monster is a Des Koala. I activate my second Shallow grave, summoning my des koala from the graveyard. I set Desert Sunlight. My opponent has about ten cards in his hand at this point and when I activate Desert Sunlight during his turn he loses 8800 lifepoints. He had 8000. GG my friend.
Example Two. Later in that tournement, I play a straight cookie cutter, netdecked chaos deck. The first turn he trinities me and I lose my stall and I feel like I have little chance of winning the duel. I set one to each on my turn and he dust tornados in the end phase. Next turn he Delinquents again (MOF flip) and hits my facedown Des Koala with an Airknight (he tributes the MOF). All I have in my hand is a book of taiyou. Now this is textbook heart of the cards people, I topdeck... Morphing Jar! He's got like six cards in his hand. I set Morphing, Taiyou it, and gain a +5 to my opponent's -1. Needless to say, GG was called in a few turns. I'd done this before to this kid and we now know it as my signature move.
Example Three. This isn't really a life or death type of thing like the others, but nonetheless. This was the second round of the tourney I was playing in on the same day the other examples occured. I was playing this kid with a Horus deck. Before the tournement I'd played him. I won the duel, but in the first round of that duel he spanked me pretty badly with two Horus'. Ouch. Anyway, on my first turn against this kid I pulled five magic and trap cards (one of which was, you guessed it, Book of Taiyou) and my sixth card was everyones' favorite smiling jar, Morphing Jar. Needless to say, I set all of my m/t cards and morphing, then taiyou'ed it for a +5 for me, -0 for my opponent. Guess who won that game.
It's such a shame they're restricting Book of taiyou, but I guess it's for the best. As for the next cookie, that kid who I played with the Horus had a very solid deck that would railed me every time if I hadn't managed to get my stall off before he got his Horus out. Every deck will be tried but, the new cookie cutter is horus, hands down.
Why? The deck only gains from the ban. Horus Lv6 is immune to dark hole, the potentially delinquent duo like card of the format. You could concievibly play dark hole while you've got LV6 on the field and get a free direct attack off your opponent. That will probably be the most hated combo in this new meta. Toss in a couple of royal decree and (maybe) tech in a mystic swordsman lv2 and you've got yourself a killer. Now imagine all that plus the soon to be released Level Tuning. Heck, you could even use Jar of Avarvice to get a dead horus back in the deck. Horus is the next cookie, so prepare your Bottomless Trap Holes for impact. :noid:
Good job I think that it is a treat for most but those who lack ideas and originality will come out like light in a dark room. Most "good" players will be good but there will be A LOT more compition I cant wait :)
Well you never know... even though you are runnong your Horus deck wrong for the next meta game. Well other than that I liked the article and especially how the author pointed out that hand control will be critical in the new metagame. I belive that the Hand control decks (Don, Spirit reaper, etc...) will be on the rise because I have seen some promonent players start test building this type of deck. As for me I am going toward a stratagy of nagation/lockdown control with abit of field control inbedded in it. I believe that Cyber Jar will not see as much play as Morphing Jar because Morph has more advantage to it (you can set you whole hand and Morph. and you might get it attacked with you opp. having 3-4 cards in his hand.) With Cyber Jar both players abuse the 5 card advantage. Personally I love Dark Hole in my deck type because I gain the upper hand (no matter who activates it) but most players will not like the card. Over all from a scale of 1-10 i give this ban list a 9.75, best one yet.
Not to get off topic, but if I'm "running my Horus deck wrong for the next Meta game," how should I be running it? You can feel free to post in my topic(linked in my sig) to tell me how I should run my Horus deck...
Back on topic...
I agree with the people who say that Cyber and Morphing will be seen a lot more now.
I also think that Magic Drain will see more play, because in most of the games players can't afford discarding a spell card they could need later. Well this is just what I think.
I agree that Magic Drain will see more play, especially in the new breed of control deck. In playtesting, without the huge draw power in the old meta, it is easier to run out of resources. Setting unneeded spell cards as a bluff is becoming more common, and it is safer to attack with your Don or Reaper or Flame Sprite (in combo with Robbin' Goblin - LoL) I've bever been one to not attack anyway, regardless of what I fear is set. My attitude has always been, what the heck, if they're gonna stop me, they're gonna stop me. If they aren't, then the advantage is mine. Opponents will think twice about discarding a spell card.
A few months ago, I use to side deck a few Royal Oppression, and I will probably go back to that to further assist in shutting down Horus and Phoenix/zombie hybrids.
just looking at all the cyber jar stuff and vaguly remeber someone saying that one of the trap holes could destroy multiple monsters if chained to cybers effect -- when would be the time to flip it? (and which one works best/at all)
It's Bottomless Trap Hole and it works when Cyber is flipped outside of the battle phase. If your opponent attacks your Cyber Jar, Bottomless can't be activated. If you flip it, Bottomless can be activated.
Also, another thing about Morphing Jar. Someone mentioned it's very easy to tell when your opponent set their Morphing Jar. Yes, that is true and any astute player will use that to their advantage. If your opponent sets three or more S/T cards and one face down monster, unless they are a total noob, you can bet it's a Morphing Jar. The best thing to do, is set a bunch of your own stuff and take advantage of it if you can.
I still think cyber jar rocks. I put it with everything. and that means that we have 4 cheap nuke the monsters cards: lightning vortex, cyber jar, torrential tribute, dark hole. staples galore.
None of you Understand this list at all. This list could be worse then the last One. For a couple of reasons. It could maybe slow it down, but recently i saw no it kinda doesnt. Unless you face what Prodigy plays a solemn judgement x 3 with stall and Lacooda draw power. But anyways It also is bad because now players dont have to consentrate on one deck to beat Now i prolly bet 7 or more good deck are playable now. And most of the duelist who are not good in Stadegy's and dueling within the game will not win that much, the people who only know rulings only and some play stradegy's will have trouble playing now with all these field of decks. But this list i like because it gives me an advantage, Because this list also focuses more on hand, and im known for holding my hand to a high number. Anyways New List is gone to annoy some people Because first Cyber dragons are Broken. Spirit reaper Might run in 3. And Smash in 3. Prolly you'll see more stall decks to annoy you. Much more fun format tho. I agree with it being fun, not just Trinity and Bls. I go to regs im 5-0 face someone they pull trinity i lose. I got 10th not that bad i guess. But what im trying to say this list isnt perfect. And down the road people will figure its flaws and why it sint as great people thought it was. Regn decent article i guess, havent been on realms much or anything, but you seem to be a decent duelist from some of your tourney articles i read once. But Even tho some of you might disagree with me big time, Idc really im just trying to help some of you out. Decks to Really Look For Hand Desruction Normal Beatdown with skill drain. Stall decks Cyber Dragon dda's exiled mj and all that good stuff... Mostly a skittle deck with w/e left is good into one deck. Maybe a earth also. But Zombie and Phoenix have risks, into playing with them. Drawing 2 V's aint good. And drawing phoenix and Hand can happen as well. Horus might be decent agian it gives you bad draws.. Those deck are no consistent. Therefore, some of yous here are very wrong. Anyays Good luck for all you People.. all i know I'll be the one rockin the new format with deck... Also You Might se Control, or soul control decks more into play.
Back for now, little free time after computer web page design test. But anyays i was trying to say alot of new decks will hit everyones minds.. This list is really nice from some of the great players.. But now the player who did bad last format be even worse if you did play chaos and trinity or a decent deck to begin with. But if you dint play a good deck and was orginal with the last one, u might do good in this one. But it probably will be harder for you to stradegize and win. But people who said you have to think more.. well Kinda and not really... Playing conf. Then him summuning then u play sak and then summun don reaper ect to blow his hand is thinking but common sense. Really i think this list is prolly better suited for me. Because it takes all of the luck for some rookies and now all the good players cant lose to trinity and bls. So I'll prolly own now But out of 3 regs 25,20, and then 10 isnt bad. Just means i been luck saked agianst and im improving in skill anyways. But also just for more peoples info Heres an example deck format deck
x3 Dragons
x3 reaprs
x2 dda's
x1 mj
x1 breakr
x1 dd
^^^^ Not gonna give my whole deck out xD. But heres a little example with some of the monster cards.
Magic
DarkHole
conf
meta
goat
vortex
mst
heavy
some magics from my deck
Traps
Torrential,and Call -stapels, some traps.
Cant put whole deck cause it would have to be in eck depot. But anyays i like the article i guess i said earlier. But people should watch for this list. And my posts might help yous prepare.. And some of you who saw some of my deck.. dont copy. Its not really bam all ready and stuff but still It will pwn.
I'm seeing Zombie/Phoenix Decks a lot or what I like to call "Zombie Chicken". The goal I saw in these decks were using Pyramid Turtles to thin deck out and bring out V. Lord (easy to do now that it's unrestricted) and they try to pull out Hand by Sangan or other resources and then use Scapegoat in order to bring out the big chicken known as Phoenix Nephyts.
Another deck I think is going to be big that I did see is a OTK Cyber Stein Deck. They will try to use a lot of M/T, not a lot of monsters. Get Cyber Stein, clear the field, use Cyber Stein's Ability to whip out Cyber End Dragon, Limiter Remover or Megamorph (sometimes both) on CED v2, Game.

Hand Control is weakened, but not out. Dons and Spirit Reapers still herd in 3's. Deckout decks can really own now. Less threat of NoC and you can still have that Tsukuyoumi factor.
Themes and Beatdowns will be the norm. Zombie/Phoenix will be tried first and will fail. I see Beastdown w/ Phoenix, Light Beatdowns, and Horus to be the dominant decks.
It wouldn't surprise me to see a deckout deck win more tournies now though. If only spellcasters had more support..............
And I can't forget about Dragons. They still suck, except Horus, but that's different.
Chaos can still be the most powerful of them all, if you've got the resources for the proper deck.
Every deck will now have Exiled or DDWL, unless you've got DDAs. Chaos Sorcerer I think will see a lot more play, especially to counter a Horus.
All my opinions, mainly just educated guesses. Let the games begin. Oct. 8th will be a day to remember!!!
well horus decks have been on the rise but not enough people will actually play them correctly.
A good horus deck will kill you fast by getting out lv 6 by the second-thrid turn and lv 8 afterwards.
one good thing to kill it would be lily and buster blader, other than that those people that think dragon capture jar will work, well in a good horus deck people will have at least one royal decree decked.
Well, having just returned from my first tournament utilizing the new ban list, all I can say is Phoenix decks seemed to be the deck of the week. I dueled against three of them.
The most seen card was Brain Control.
The winner of the tournament was ME! Without Phoenix or Horus. LoL. It was nice to win again.
With the new list, summoning vie the deck (Tomatoes, Pyramid Turtles etc.) is going to become more populr, as it leaves your hadn untouched. Gravekeeper Spies will sneak into ever more deck, I know I use them in a number of mine, and I wouldn't be suprised to see Nimble Momongas a lot more often now.
Zombie/Phoenix decks don't seem to have the synergy to be regular winners, although a decent beatdown with a Phoenix added with no other changes did very well at a tournament today.
With NoC limited to one, Mystic Swordsman lvl2 is now in every other deck, and Exiled Force is seen in practically every deck. A nice tech worth considering again (with Goats limited to one) is Creature Swap, worked wonders with my Tomato/Zaloog control deck earlier.
