Thanks on the confirmation HalfD., Diamond Dude may make quite a nice asset to my Harpie Lady deck if I choose to load him into it ^_^. It's also nice to know that Primal Seed isn't all that useless in the Adv. Format, lol, I'm getting very strange ideas I know.
Not really a very good explaination...Release Restraint only references Gearfried the Iron Knight as the cost, it doesn't have anything to do with the effect. That's a whole different story. Here's a better way...these sorts of things cannot simply be said so easily...
Stuff saying things like....
"Special Summon a monster of the same level as..."
"Inflict damage equal to the ATK of...."
"Increase your Life Points equal to the DEF of...."
"Do damage equal to half of...."
....and so on and so forth, are all needing references to be able to work. In most cases, they are referring to the cost (a sent LV monster for Metamorphosis, a Tributed monster for something and so on). If you do not have a reference, then there's no way for the effect to "know" what to do since there's nothing to copy from and it will simply resolve without effect.

but you can use stuff like release restraints, because it only has 1 possible cost,
remember if cost effects effect, no, (i memerized this when i used serial spell, lol)
i see no problem with my explanation, i could have made it alittle easier to understand, but its fine the way it is,
p.s. all the examples you mentioned are effects that change, pending the cost you paid,

The only problem with your explanation is, it needs a further explanation on what cost are.
If your definition of something involves the use of the word you are defining, it isnt a definition. If your explanation of an event involves the use of a term that is not immediately recognizable, then it defeats the purpose of explaining.
Example....
The definition of a "Cost" is when you pay the Cost....
