It doesn't matter how popular the card game is in general, as long as there are people to buy counterfeits, that's all that matters to the counterfeiters.
Ya' know, I've got about fifty different kinds of counterfeits, some of them are obvious, others on the other hand arent, the best way to tell if it is a counterfeit is probably what you won't try, if you are not sure if it is a counterfeit or not, and it is holographic, make sure you have a double before you do this, take a double of it and cut it in half, the holographic fakes I have found do not have the holograph running all the way through them, the holograph is only a film in the spot it is it appears to be holographic, then look for certain details about the card that are possibly different from real cards: Bad art, bad wording, misspellings, awkward names and strange text fonts, check for these details before buying any more.
If someone wanted to counterfeit cards to make money, Yu Yu Hakusho wouldn't be MY first choice. Compared to yugioh, this game only has a few players nationwide and card prices are pretty cheap (except for the dark one and a few ghosts). This is why I cannot believe your story.
