In my area, we have two tourny areas. However DM still hasnt picked up for either store. When the first JDC tournys began, my "Friday" store had 10 people in a tourny. After that it kept dropping. 9, then 8, then 7, then 6, then 5, and sometimes 4. Now its going back up and down around 6, which is not too bad. However, at the same time, Yugioh has 25-30 players in the store every week.
As for my "Saturday" store, we usually have 6-12 players every week, which is great for me. However, we are still far behind Yugioh, were 12-20 people gather for a grand prize of $100 dollars every week.
I'm sure WotC is not putting everything in this game. Yet.
First let YGO die out, by then there are probably 5 sets out. With about 450 cards. Now there are to little cards, which means you see the same decks over and over again. And people get bored. With 450 cards there are enough cards to be explored, so it doesn't die out, before it really takes off.
So until then keep collecting, so by the time the general public hears of it... You'll have all key cards, and won't need to buy a single booster ever again.
DM is struggling a bit in my area. The product seems to sell well, but tournament turn out is really poor. We usually average 6 people, but this week only had 2. :( One week we had 11 people. I am hoping that there will be more players when school resumes.
Yu Gi Oh seems to be dying down in my area. It's been drawing about 20 people each week, down from the near 40 of the winter. Also, many of the players who do play are new to the game; the best players have already quit.
Magic is quite popular here, and Pokemon still draws on average about 10 people a week. Yu Yu Hakasho is also played, tournaments draw about 6 people a week. VS System is doing probably about as well as DM.
Megman TCG which is relatively unheard of in some areas has gained a quick following here with 8-12 people playing.
Personally I found that DM last month had a real big surge; it ended up having the same or more players than Yugioh for the past while. Unfortunately a lot of people are getting out of DM for some reason; probably due to the lack of prizes or JDC promos. People oddly enough are switching back to MTG or even more odd is the upsurge of Pokemon which now rivals that of MTG DM and Yugioh.
And Darksage78 what were you rambling on about another place to play around here? if there is, it sure isn't listed ...
I know Wizards is only putting half the effort into the game. Someone on here got an E-mail from them saying that they are putting everything into DuelMasters but I know they're not. I agree with Jyo that this game probably won't get popular until the next Base Set.
Here, we're still a fledgling community, which we will probably remain until the next couple of sets comes out. What makes this area so compatible with Duelmasters is that I live in an area which loves all things anime. Over the years, I've played three out of five games that were anime (Pokemon, YGO, and DM). And I am going to be playing the upcoming Navia Drapt CMG and, one of my more highly anticipated new games, Shaman King CCG. Naturally, DM has had some setbacks and unfounded predjudice, due to some players who see it as the new YGO and possible money-ripper  but so far, such beliefs have been few and isolated. I shall keep playing as long as my checkbook can hold out LOL, as I have done with all my previous games. Hopefully, DM shall gain a stronger calling once a few more sets come out.

You can play at Pacific Gifts, but there isn't much room and it won't be for anything. As far as I know there aren't any tournys there, but there are two tables inside the store. But for official play 401 Convenience is there and some other card store in Ajax.
Umm ... the place you stated has almost no standing room let alone playing room ... lol. As for the other 2, Ajax would be better than going downtown, especially via car.
For those in southeastern Louisiana, in St. Tammany Parish, there are at least two places I know that Duelmasters can be played: Gamer's Conclave (Covington) and BSI Comics (Mandeville). PM me if you need directions or such. We'd love to see new faces around here.
I got a YGO heavy person into DuelMasters today. He came up to my house to buy my remaining YGO cards and I asked him if he ever heard of DM. You know what his reply was? "DuelMasters suck! It's a ripoff of Yu-Gi-Oh!" So I tried expalain how different they were and he started showing some intrest. By the time a played a game with my other freind, he fell in love with the game. So instead of buying YGO cards from me, he bought some DM cards instead. He said that he would spread the words to his friends so it's going to be doing well in my area as soon as school starts.
One store (on the far north outskirts of the major metropolitan area) had 12 to 14 the first few weeks when things started in April -- it dwindled down to 2 on July 24th.
Another store (part of the same 3 store chain) started off with 8 and peaked at 18 the week after the Mall Tour (June 27th). We only had 8 last week, but then school started Tuesday in that suburban city.
We also have an 8 store chain that will only allow a maximum of 8 play. They have been set up to run things since July 1, and only 1 store has ever held any events - 4 players last week, 8 the week before.
Lastly, there is a store that charges a monthly league fee on top of the weekly tourney entry ($5 per month [unlimited game play] and $5 per week). Because of this pricing structure, only regulars particpate (because occasional players get stuck paying $10 when they randomly show up). This store barely averages 8 (usually forcing a YGO, YYH, or Pokemon player to fill up the spots so that they can sanction.
Part of the problem - the first League Kit was available for too long. No one in the area needs anymore Barkwhips or Groblavs. And the new kit will ellicit even less enthusiasm because Light and Darkness are the least played Civs (although Darkness does get splashed in almost every deck - but moreso for the spells).
