The metagame is not a problem. The metagame is the state of this game in competetive play; not something designed by the boogeyman.
The fact is that in order to win one should try to do the following: interpret play trends, adjust one's deck and play style to accomodate for said play trends, then wreck face through innovation.
The current metagame? It's interesting. And not too predictable. I think that if I had to pick an established deck type to play around with in this format it would be either Six Samurai with tons of negation or Macrocosmos with a heavy anti-set mons sideboard.
And main decked Pulling the Rugs.

Yes, yes it is. Freed and Strike Ninja have had their share of the limelight and Lekunga is the third card in that cycle. It's surprisingly solid and provides a more solid form of tribute material than Strike Ninja (in combination with DDSP).
I agree wholeheartedly with Dark Duellist. This is you second article in a row that is quite appealing to read. Much, MUCH better compared to your initial deck articles.
Lekunga Return ? Hmm, depends on what you do with the tokens. Easy enough to set up, Fill graveyard, empty graveyard with Lekunga to generate a pair of tokens, do something with your tokens, flip return for game. Especially nice if you can bring back some things like Giga Gagagigo.
Originality is rampant, but sadly people like to win, and for that they rely on a sure thing. That causes them to not get in enough practice with original decks to make them better, and as a result a lack of confidence in the deck, which ends in resorting to the same old deck again. it's a vicious circle.
Lekunga. Ah, I relish the days when a plant deck dominated the tourney (right after the original ban list). I have hated the meta game ever since the nationals of 05 when all you saw were Chaos control or that stupid magical scientist OTK that somehow pulled it off ONLY against me (in case you can't feel the bitterness, it's still there, lol). Long live human rush decks!
I've allways had strong feelings about this... you should see some of the decks at my local, Gravekeepers, Counterline, Six samurai, Betadown, and well.... Tundo... so i have to go out of my way to find meta to test against. However Its allways looking for the next big deck... You never know when something crazy is amazing. We had a uria deck that was pretty cool.
And especially thanks to you, Belgian. I think I even remarked to Mr. Chaos that I really don't like doing deck builds, and that'd I'd prefer doing articles like this. Thanks again for the encouragement!
Agreed to the fullest extent. People run the same deck because they focus on wanting to win than on having fun. I respect the top duelists because they have the vision to make something original and make it work. Everyone follows suit, unfortunately, and that ruins the fun of the game. On the TV show, everyone has a different deck and uses different strategies, which is what made the show popular (despite the phenomenal card game it is). But in going to tourneys (other people, I have never gotten the chance to go. Don't know where a local one is. T_T) all you see is the same decks. But I respect the guy who goes in there with something totally different way more than the one who wins the tournament, because I know that guy made his deck because he likes to play with it, not to win.
I have been running a light deck since Chaos was popular, before the ban, while my best bud runs fiends (even still). Sure, we may lose some battles, but we have playing them and pulling off some crazy lucky combo that wouldn't be possible using a cookie-cutter deck. Originality keeps the game fun and props to you, neon, for remembering that.
I like originality in Yugioh because I believe it is healthy for the game. It wasn't but about a year ago when the only thing winning was chaos. With Bazooper, Demise, Gadgets, Perfect Circle, Monarchs, Burn and others, we have more diversity than I've seen in a while.
I am not sure how to widen the diversity even more, but I think limiting Brain Control down to one, Soul Exchange down to two, Raiza down to one, and Zaborg down to one might swing the equation away from Monarchs enough to help even out the kinds of decks which usually win at regionals and at the Shonen Jump tourneys. Maybe my suggestions are too radical. Monarchs have been amazingly resilient against most decks.
Never-the-less, if you are into net decking, I am auctioning off a bunch of cards common in winning decks this evening. I can't post the link but my E-Bay name is benjoshuasdad. Check 'em out!:classic:
