I am not sure if I should be jumping for joy for this one.
On one hand, it means that there is a good chance that it might start getting official prize support and start a global league system... not to mention possible blister packs of Solaris VII-oriented lances (although I would love to see that Mechs are kept interchangable between the two rulesets).
On the other hand, it goes from being a for-fun ruleset... and turned into one that is aimed at making WK money. Not to mention that the league/support becomes something under the control of WK, and any further tweaks they add.
Oh well, I grabbed the 2.1 rules before they got taken down... so I will continue to get our advanced campaign to grow. So far I play a SW stable, trying to build up some Liao Mechs in my collection to run a Liao Stable. My gf runs a Stormhammers stable, and a friend is trying to start a Spirit Cat stable. I think I can get a DF/BR stable player and a SS stable player added into the league pretty soon, with a RoTS stable soon after... it will be interesting!
Originally posted by jro909 by the way what faction/mech did you run and how were the fights :D we are running solaris in december for a weekend,
I was using the SW Arbolest in mine. Both of the top two players in the league for the first season were running Koshi's (not the same one though) Unfortunately, my SW Koshi (along with many other great SW mechs) was over the 110 point limit for the light division. I'm still trying to decide between the SW Ghost & SW Legionnaire. (I'm not using my SW LE Mad Cat III because it has the absolute WORST heat dial I've ever seen!)
I guess you can tell I'm running a SW stable.
There's another kid running clan, but he's Spirit Cats. There may be another SW clan player. Everyone else, I believe, is going to either run Republic or Merc, since all other factions are considered Republic.
We are going to be starting up a Solaris VII campaign at our local college here soon... starting with 6-8 players, which is pretty good. I know I am already planning my SW stable, mostly because I only have 2 Liao Mechs right now.
Other players will likely be:
Spirit Cats
Republic or Liao
Swordsworn
Stormhammers
Highlanders or Bannson's
So we will have a fairly nice mixture in the arena when we get together. I have a feeling that the SC stable will be interesting to play against with the abundance of energy weapons on the SC pieces. I have a custom painted Arby that will likely be my first Mech (he is just sick in the light leagues after modding it with an XL Engine).
Havenmist: Don't count out Yulri Wolf in medium, if you have him..yes his heat dial sucks but if you stay away from people (not hard with his ranges), he can rock all when he gets to his sweet spot. I use him currently, and I'd be doing great if I didnt get gang tackled every match..I'm just about the scariest mech on the board next to the SS Centuion with +1 ballistic damage.
I don't have Yulri. I'll have to get him. Jenny Wolf is one point over, and Shin is only 118, so I'd like to get a little more pop in my mech. If we hadn't gone for the advanced rules, I was going to use the DF Black Hawk because of the agility & 3 targets at ranged, 10 attack w/improved targeting & decent heat dial. Unfortunately, the LE Mad Cat III is the only SW mech that I have that is more points than my SW Ghost. I'm leaning toward that one because of the pulse & the fact that the SW Legionnaire shuts down quicker (only 4 clicks instead of 5). I'll have to try to find a Yulri Wolf to trade for.
Originally posted by DarkSpade If anything, I envy you. We barely ever get to play solaris around here, and the league comeing up will only last one night :(
Says who? Last I checked our BattleMaster (namely me) said that we'd be running one Solaris League night per month!
Yes, Yulri is a monster if you train a pilot specifically to jump in his ride in Medium League matches. 3-19" ballistic, +1 ballistic dmg, +1-3 to fire.... takes awhile... but VERY worth it.
