one thing I did was run a ss mech. Then I placed two water terrains. Thus I could guarantee where two or three of the mines would be placed.
I went 2-0 with this army.
ss centurion
2x ss towed aa
2x ss sprint scout (in my opinion the best vtol in the game right now, although nobody in my area has a bannsons sprint so I haven't had a chance to evaluate it yet)
ss ord
3x ss fenrir
2x ss towed ac
hazens strikers (le srm team)
and yes I beat an arnis/tankdrop army with this one. so don't holler about the current meta blah blah blah. Pretty simple really i just kept the centurion, infantry, and j37 together where to tankdrop or charge one meant retaliation from the others.
You're right on about the SS Sprint! ;) I've felt that way for a while
now. I got rid of my SS Balacs and now have 6 of these amazing,
little wonders! I ran an army with two of these in the "Mile
High" scenario. They were across the board and harrassing the
holy heck out of my opponent's arty in 2 turns! Gotta love that
+2 for rear arc! :devious: Between the Sprints and my SS
Snipers, the opponent's arty generally didn't last long. I went
2-0 and won the SS Warhammer!
I'm thinking of going with the following for "Mines or Yours" this
week:

"How do I beat my opponent when I have 100 extra points and an extra action?"
Any SS Strategy thread for this month either comes down to who can brag about bringing the most balacs or Towed AA's. Or these really are idiots who need help beating someone when they have the advantage.
It takes skill, guile, and balls to play Liao this month. Whether you hate them or not anyone who plays SS is taking the easy way out and deserves little respect.

That's odd, I could have sworn that in order to play this scenario one player is REQUIRED to play Swordsworn. You kind of asked for it Broman, since according to your post you'd have nobody play the scenario since there'd be no opponents. To rebutt a paraphrase of your flame, David Wilson actually listed that his army had ZERO Balacs and ZERO Towed AA pieces.
What's truly sad is that I played SS for Mines or Yours at one venue and Liao at another where there's many players in common and a similar level of play/competition. When I played Liao just to prove I could, my first round yielded 700 points. I lost a Minigun Cycle and had exactly 12 VC3 points, though in my later rounds I didn't completely wipe out each opponent. When I played my SS army it was a hard-fought battle each round. My Liao army consisted of Catalina Trujilo, 4 Liao Minigun Cycles, and 1 SH Minigun since there's no Liao infantry cheap enough to fill 8 points. Mine placement was important, find the most likely movement rate of your opponent's units and place 3 that distance from your opponent's deployment zone so that they actually move into them for you. The other mines you place to support a section of the field you plan to make your stand (or water or hindering terrain if you know they're going to camp in it), use terrain to channel opponents into the mines. When they try to close with you, make them pay for it.
My guess is that you're possibly upset because in your eyes the scenarios were difficult or impossible for you to win, let me assure you that if the factions were the other way around I would STILL play SS for them and, as I proved with my Mines or Yours experience, could do quite well.
David, I'd have to agree with you completely on the Sprint issue, you get almost two for one against the cost of a Balac. I did the same thing with the Sniper, too. I wanted an artillery piece that was on the money with each shot and that could survive a mine blast without any loss of efficiency or armor piercing, the Sniper definitely did the trick despite costing more than two DI Towed AA pieces- In this case it was definitely a matter of quality versus quantity.
The second venue I played at there were only four players, two Liao and two SSw, so the final round was Liao v Liao and SSw v SSw.
That was a fun game (except the other SSw guy took it far too seriously).
I went 0-3 with an arty/VTOL/Mobile HQ turtle, though I only lost my first match because I pushed my SH Balac into salvage, giving my opponent VC2. In each case my opponent was in my face by turn 3.
Don't underestimate the mines. If the Liao player is smart, they can be a great equalizer.
I used NO artilllery and no vtols. I still took the scenario. The sad part is I was trying to take a dive for fellowship and I still won argh....
Hell 231 points of my army was the Warhammer IIC I won in the earlier scenario.
my army of gimpyness:
SS Warhammer IIC 231pts
Leo 93 pts
SS J-37 26 pts
Hazan's Strikers 20 pts
Team-6 19 pts
SS Free legion company 11 points.
