ummm, okay. The point total per action is changing. 100 vs 150. Yippee, yay, yahoo. :noid:
What this means to us is that instead of having 600/6 games, we will have 600/4 games. Even more emphasis on formations and faction "purity" than what we've been doing.
I must confess, I've never understood the problem with the rule set for tournaments, since 300 points was the default tounament setting, not the required tournament setting! We haven't run a 300pt game (other than scenarios) for quite some time..................
The new 450/3 rules make 'Mechs a very viable force, as now even though they still eat a good chunk of points, a 'Mech in the 150-160 point range isn't "big" anymore. I played a game Saturday with the 450/3 rules after the head to head tournament and fielded a full star of AgroMechs (2 :^^: SC MOD Bs, 2 SC :^: Mk IIs, and a single :^: Merc B) in a friendly game against another player playing mixed IndustrialMechs, light tanks, and infantry. It was actually rather nice to be able to play a powerful all 'Mech force. Not to mention the ability to play Collin Tolek, Barry Segal, or Romain Tesarek with plenty of points left over for support is nice.

Isn't it either going to be 400 or 500?
Seeing as for us there is a 500 point unrestricted even coming up...
Can't see how they'd make 450 pointer games
This is because of the proposed rule change from one action per 100 points, to one action per 150 points. In a 450 point game, both players get three actions per turn.
This rule was playtested recently, and will in all likelihood be implemented as the new MW standard.
I was refering to the past with a bleak outlook on the future. People who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
As for 450 pt 3 order games its going to reduce the effectiveness of mixing factions and low point units will be weakened in thier usefullness outside of formations. Command is going to be highly useful which is why the next major rule change is going to be to prevent the abuse of multiple units of command.
________ Motor company
I am all for 450points, give you that extra points to be able to start playing those mechs that you were not able to before... well you could play them but most likely lose.
I say don't stop at 450, go to 600 points. MORE MASS MAYHEIM and MECHS.
450/3 means most of us will need to buy more product. Faction Pure means ALL of us will need to buy more product. New units that make old units obsolete in a new expansion means all of us will by BOATLOADS of new product.
Where is the downside for the company that desperately needs to keep selling product RIGHT NOW to stay in business? Has anyone seen ANYONE buying MageKnight 2.0? No? (Can you say 'alienation of fanbase?' I knew that you could.) So until sportsclix widens the market base, we're it boys and girls.
(And anyone looking to spend $200-400.00 for a Marvel or DC miniature to adorn thier computer, 'cause no one around here plays that game anymore. (Too many rules disputes.) Even fewer places stock singles. Remember Crimson Skies? No? Still gathering dust in your venue's remaider bin? When was the last time you saw someone play Shadowrun? Oopsila. Need I even mention the marketing failure that was Creepy Freaks? (Give me a child at the age of seven and I'll have a zelot for life only works for religion, and sports.)
My point is you have to keep in mind that this is game is created by a business, however well or poorly run, and the primary focus of any changes will be monitary based. The sad fact is that the few companies that 'made games for gamers' sank beneath the waves. (Avalon Hill Et. All) We will get SOME consideration, just not Primary priority.
Acctually in my area MK had died a slow agonizing death, with really only dungeons being played. Now 2.0 is selling rather well. HC has kept a consistant fanbase, as there are a fair amount of players and several people who just collect it cause they like comics.
CF, CS, SR have probably all met thier end...CS has a chance all be it a small one.
You are however right that WK runs a business and they push product, and now with the backing of tops they can "afford" mistakes a little better...we will see what happens.

I've already got 2000+ in BR
Though I may try to get that one Raider/den Mk II mech
Originally posted by Bewulf Nope, they don't. True, they make 'Mechs more viable, but most 'Mechs are still dead meat in a standard game. I wonder why people fail to see this.
I have yet to have 'Mechs fail me at my venue in competitave play, but that's likely because all of the players there don't go übercheese with Arnis, tank drops, ArtyHell, etc. So until the day 'Mechs become so unviable even without cheese, I will still claim that the proposed rules make 'Mechs more viable. :p
The new rules definitely make arnis and a select group of mechs a viable force. The infantry shake off rule does tip the balance towards mechs. The new arty rules prevents artillery from wiping units off the map in a single turn. The 450 build total gives you enough points to spend on a mech plus adequate support.
The mech game will be dominated by charging. Could be issues with this. Arnis will define whether a mech is playable. Thus, 90% of your collection is still junk.
Mechless armies will still be viable but a command unit or 2 will be a must. This will help handicap these army types.
