Originally posted by GCmdrArcanix actuly acroding to the FAQ, you -CAN'T- use IT to roll out of a Critical Miss.. it nails you either way, and if your stupid enough to use it, and still get that critical mis. you take not one, but two clicks of damage for the miss.
thats one reason why i'm so frustrated with DF right ... and i'm the hard core DF player at my venue. for the longest time i was able to roll out of a Critmiss. then the FAQ changed all that..
No, you CAN roll out of a critical miss, and you don't take the damage. You just CANNOT roll into a critical hit.
Now, unless I am mistaken, they have not changed that in the FAQ. go look at the newest FAQ, and if it is there, please post where in the FAQ it is.
Now, as to regimentally pure, I can run in their elite Regiment no problem, probably up to about 900 or 1000 point If i want to, but I usually think regimentally pure is a little over the top.
As per the FAQ for November 29th. (i still need to find out if there is a FAQ for December)
Q: *Although Improved Targeting doesn't allow for a critical hit on a re-rolled die, how about a critical
miss?*
A: Yes, a critical miss is possible on a re-rolled die.
ok, that covers the reroll into a critmiss. now this is where my Battlemaster nailed me good.
on page 14 of the ROW booklet that come in the DA starter pack it states that if you roll a 2 on the white dice, you automaticly -miss- your target, and take a click of damage. this is said in there very first paragraph of 'Rolling 2 and 12 on the White Dice'

-thats- where my Battle masternailed me.
Ok, However, IT is NOT optional equipment (in the FAQ), but you do not have to use it because of the wording. But when you roll the attack, and you have IT, you still have to reroll, and therefor can roll out of a critical miss. The dice no longer are looking snakeeyes back at you, and therefore, it is not a critical miss. This means no damage.
that is how every BM I have known has seen how IT and critical misses work.
However, I will ask this questiopn in the BM section of Wizkids to get a complete accurate and final say in return.
thats what i thought too.. but my Battlemaster has ruled once you roll, and you get snakeeyes. thats it. it's a miss. if you use the IT and get snake eyes again, your taking 2 clicks. thats where DF is getting hoses at my venue

Your BattleMaster is wrong.
Yes, you can use IT to try to roll out of a critical miss. IT is not optional but you do get to choose if you want to use it or not. You do not take an extra click of damage if you roll another one on the rerolled die (there is no second critical miss; it's either one damage or no damage).
As for "snake-eyes and it's a miss" in regards to IT, well, that's wrong too. IT is SE (Special Equipment). SE's take precedence over what's in the rulebook.
some one tell all this to MechOverLoad over in the WizKids site.. thats my BattleMaster.
i've tried and tried and tried to tell him these things. hellz bellz. i still can't get the guy to use Wizkids terrain templates so i can have water puddles to work with. because of that i have almost zero chance of using Vicki Drexel effectively because of her heat dail
Mordred, like myself, grew up with BattleTech, Mechwarrior, and this current off shoot to one of the largest gaming universes. Some these devoted followers pride ourselves with Faction Purity. Mordred has been able to take Regimental purity and win. That takes guts against some of these cherry pickers and the large swarms of Steel Wolves players we have in Austin, TX.
He fights with each regiment. He has more than enough pieces to build a good regiment for almost any occasion. :p How he chooses them? Chance. Random intervention.
Does he every lose? Yes, everyone will lose eventually; the same goes for winning too.
