For fracks sake... Why can't WizTopps just have a normal sealed Marquee without any goofy rules or bring your own stuff?
Hopefully where I play only regulars will show up and we can ignore that rule without anyone caring. (We are all old school CBT players and almost never use the current metagame in our armies. Well, except for one guy who likes his DF Donnars a bit to much. ;) )
I didn't play in the Liao Marquee because it was a bring your own army and not a sealed event. If this is the case for Counter Assault, I'm not sure if I will play either.
And by the way, I agree with Warflail, Liao shouldn't have to be shortened. One is way to lazy if one can't type two more letters. (and HL is Highlanders, SS is SwordSworn, SH is StormHammer, and SW is SteelWolves)
The fact that some idiot at WizKids used HL for House Liao merely proves that WizKids is totally out of touch with its community. It is the constant discovery of these little problems that causes me to not want to give WizKids anymore time to fix the problems.
counterstrike is a half life expansion. counter assault is the new MW expansion. Even if you had said boycott counter assault i still wouldnt support you in it, my factions(SH, SC, DF, and to a minor extent SW) are well supported in counter assault, and i believe that we should give wizkids one more expansion with the NEW design team, so that we can see what they bring us, i cant say its the greatest MWDA set, but it does set some new and surprising trends, and id like to see what happens with the next one since the old team was fired.
Wicked
WizKids should do an easy fix-
Call the Capellans by their proper name and use the designation "CC" for Capellan Confederation and "HL" for Highlanders. Voila! Unless we see Clan Cloud Cobra or Coyote anytime soon, it's an easy fix.
Personally I have always used H to refer to HDragons Fury (it's a silent 'h') . . .
But seriously, about the January events, I find it interesting that we have all these events that take place in "forests" or "jungles" or "wheatfields" where you might think a unit would be able to use camo. Except you can't because it's not "hindering terrain". It's not a serious complaint, and I still intend on playing the scenarios, but what exactly is hindering terrain if its not something like a forest or a jungle?
ooooooh, that silent H is gonna leave those scorch marks in the back of my head for a while...
but otherwise, i wholeheartedly agree on having senarios done in more variable environments (maybe even one on a moon or something without air [no ICE, no unarmoured infantry, mechs get + to cooling]). it would be completely awesome.
I think the 'Bring one unit from LI or SS' is too ambiguous. Is there a point limit on that other than the 400 . . . .can somebody bring the SS Atlas and then make up 100 points of support from the boosters?
With +1 to Vent that monster could ROCK! Screen with the infantry out of the boosters, wait for the opponent to get close up and BLAMMO!
All the LI Fatties are going to love this scenario, too! *sigh*
On Agility - Only Skullcap Garrett of these 2 factions has Agility to date. He also has it on click 4-6 - i.e. this is not a charge counter.
As to Liao fatties - I'd be more likely to expect the Targe - good attack, good damage and 20" charge range.
Not sure on the SS, b ut the MiningMech Mark II may be a reasonable bet (slow, no guns, but 4 damage Rapid Strike, 21 def, 10 attack is going to be hard, even with the cruddy heat dial).
Hasbani will still be rubbish - the heat effects are ammo explosions - he's likely to kill himself and the extra Vent won't help.
Lt Jameson was the first mech I thought of when I read the rules, though Scott Trayck and CPT Gerringer might also be amusing... The LT with th "Pulse of Doom" and a 22 defense would be a pretty good Targe deterrant...
Then my question is what about artillery. Artillery by definition is a ranged combat attack. So do you all think that arty can or cannot be used? I know this is lawyering but I figured we could get this out of the way first before this does come up. I would say no, but I have been known to be wrong more than I am know to be right.
I don't think you can use arty in the marquee, because of the 6" limit on ranged attacks (and arty is a ranged attack). I don't think there's that much "lawyering" in getting to that conclusion.
As for what to bring, if I were playing for SSw, I would probably bring a J-37 (especially if CA has no repair units) or a Mjolnir (the marquee rules pretty much force Mechs to charge, and the Mjolnir is by far the best SSw charge Mech, even if it is rather fragile). If I were playing Liao, the Targe is probably your best bet.
