A lot of confusion about this rule revision. Brawling still works with Charge. The part about "requires a close combat order" is to stop rules lawyers from trying to use Flamers and stuff like that with a charge. If the rule had simply stated that close combat SE were not allowed, then you could technically use flamers and Firestarters would be all the rage.
What a messed up world that would be, eh? :nervous:
OK..... Brawl still does +1 to Charge, DFA and Close combat. That is a FACT...
Improved Targetting should never have been used on a charge in the first place. ImpTrgt is only used for Ranged and Close combat attacks. Charge and DFA have ALWAYS been catagorized as special attacks, which are niether close or ranged combat attacks. That also means ALL defense special equipment is useless on a charge or DFA.... I know most of you know this, but I am just responding to the initial poster!!
Charge is not gone by any means, but it just makes it a little less appealing. I would still like to see this added to charge: The target of the charge be able to make a ranged combat attack against the charging 'Mech if the charge does not begin and end in it's rear arc and the charge was started beyond the charging 'Mech's walking distance.
For those fans of Arnis who think a repair vehicle is gonna be your best friend, beware of the Fa-Shi.... :P
But hey.... I'm not gonna worry too much about stuff above my pay grade!! ;)
I hate to say it while so many others are expressing thier elation over the new rule, but the more I think about it- the more I realize that this is only so much of a change for charging.
So the answer is no, charge is not gone- The people who want to risk charging are going to be putting themselves in a more vulnerable position by doing so, allowing thier victims a better chance to retaliate...... but on the other hand, mechs like the BR Lego and Arnis are still gonna wallop things when they hit 'em with an early charge, and Arnis knocked down to a 9 gunnery is still as toughas a lot of other mechs- so accounting for "chargemonkeys" when building your armies would probably still be a wise idea.
well i just love the timing of this they make jacyn bell the yu huang with its 24 inch 7 damage charge then they kill charge well im still gonna charge until january 22nd at least it will still be used in regionals
And for the third time: (you guys really should not open 3 threads to the same topic...)
I think it is a good start, but just does not go far enough.
(Look, it's a Spirit Cats player having Arnis and complaining that charge is too strong!).
If I get it right, I still get +1 to my primary damage when I charge.
So Arnies still charges for 5 clicks of armorpiercing damage. Before, Arnis would take one click damage from charging. Now he takes two. Wow. Big deal. I still have hit my opponent from 24 inchs away for 5 clicks or armorpiercing damage and he can't do the heck against it. 5 damage dealt, two taken: nice deal, I'd say.
I still have my evade after that, so I can easily break, run away, then shut down in my own deployment zone and get repaired by my Recovery Vehicle.
Like I said: the rule is a good start. Now we need to get further and say that heavy and hardened armor protects from charge damage. After all, the armor is there and just does not magically disappear just because some Mech rushes against me.
The only Mechs that are hurt by this new rule are the ones with a high primary damage like Clyde Joyce (never charged with it....) or Barry Segal. Arnis, Faisal or the BR Legionnaire, or Bart Bradshaw, hardly recognize the rule changes.
Major Shift with the Rule change in my opinion is the fact that alot of target's are now very unappealing to charge.
Charging a Mech amy still be worth it, but it adds alot more consideration to think about. HOw much dmg will this Set your unit back. Where will you be if you fail it and sitting under it's gunds. Where will you be even if you hit and sitting under it's guns. How vulnerable does this now make your mech and is it worth the risk?
It maybe worth it to charge that 200point mech, but is it worth it to charge that 31 point maxium?
The Damage will add up alot quicker. Arnis will no longer have his 22 vs ranged, and it is alot easier to hit a 21 than it is a 22.
Charge was a moderate gamble. Now it's a Serious Gamble. The difference of 1 click of damage charging makes a big difference on most mechs.
You really have to think on weather or not your target it worth the backlash you will receive and the potential back lash you can receive after the fact.
Charge is not gone. Arnis still hits for 5 and takes 2 himself. The BR Lego still hits for 6 and only takes 2 for himself. Charge is not gone only changed.
