Originally posted by hakkenshi But MtG is not the same thing. MWDA is supported by a persistent universe that does not change planes of existence, or whatever. The units would still exist.
Unless WK decides to gather all the Unique characters on one planet and nuke it in a storyline, this is the stupidest thing ever. I can sort of understand this for storyline purposes, but it's friggin' annoying for anything else.
All they're really doing is covering their own asses so that they don't have to balance units against older ones. That's intellectual laziness at best...
And even after retiring a set, the retired units would still exist. It's just that you can only use them for Unrestricted tournaments.
Originally posted by Gebus This will probably shut down half the auctions and trades going on that is for sure...... who the hell wants FFE figures now? For that matter DFA is toast as soon as the Jade falcon shows up too so why trade heavy for that nice Balac, DI towed or whatever..... toss out your maxims and J-37s too, if your faction doesn't have a zahn or garrott super copter you have been eliminated from Tank drop...... look at how this effects so many levels.
Hm, do we know we falcon's prey supposed to be booster packs or starter packs? Because if they are starters dark age will not be turnament legal as soon as falcon's prey comes out.

That's great... so once in a blue moon we actually get to USE the units we bought. Yaaaaaaay... :ermm:
How about they realize instead that this isn't MtG, and we've paid a lot MORE money for much LESS variety?
@ DeepBlue,
Whatever. I didn't create the game. If they designed themselves into a corner, that's their problem. The game doesn't NEED to phase out units for balance. All they have to do is refrain from upping the power curve too much. It's not like they don't have basis for comparison...
And here, while we're at it, I WILL suggest something to fix the inner balance of the game: make more events faction pure. That way WK doesn't need to balance various units from different factions together.
As for spirit cat's being Ok let's see how much we got hurt with dark age alone:
our infantry set combined with clan better armor, and hoverbikes were the best of our infantry:
Mikel nova cat is gone and with him our good tank support.
Koshis and blackhawks no longer available.
Janis nova cat gone with the wind.
Our only repare vehicle is gone too. Great so not only we will not have 3 cap transports we will loose repair and solid infantry support.
Yes they did say they wanted to impliment this proposed change to approved play AFTER they do this to MK. This will give them a feel of the ideas and attitudes of these types of changes.
Also what if the new expansions still feature the same mech warriors from previous sets? How about they run the fluff in concurrance with the new sets. So Mason Dunne gets blasted out of his mad cat, and is piloting a new mech in the next expansion???? Could you see Tara Bishop, or Caden Senn in different mechs? Maybe keep them in the same mech, but upgrade it's stats and abilities. Or you get a repeat of the same types of units in each set. (not all of them reprinted, or changed, but the most used).
Another issue, they did not say this would go into effect with Falcons Prey. I believe it will start with the expansion after falcons prey.
Lastly, I believe this is a great idea for the game. Think about all those uber units some people realllllllly hate. They will have a built in shelf life. This restores some of the game balance. And think about it this way, it makes the Mr. Suitcases have to develop new tactics, and strategies with each new set.
I'm really, really ticked off. I don't have the funds to go and hit up a #### load of stuff to get the CURRENT UBER UNIT OF THE HAYDAY. This is why I hate magic! Guess what you can't buy a little here and there and be able to play a bit competitive. You got to buy craploads of stuff to stay competitive. Wizkids ypu just lost another customer. I might play battletech or MW for fun, but that is about it.
Originally posted by hakkenshi This is all bull. I can sort of find logic in it, but it's total #### for the players.
I mean, why would the Uller or the Centurion suddenly stop existing in MWDA? How does this make sense?
Stupid, stupid WK!
1: I sorta agree. I guess it says good things about the growth of this game if you need type one and type two tourneys. Its not total bull, because at least there will continue to be unrestricted, and it allows for the inclusion of houses and clans easier. Mixed with a few sealed, and its not-that-much-worse-than-MTG-type-two. It just means I'll have to get a job sooner.
2: I guess they could re-print them for the new blocks.
3: "Meh"
I have mixed feeling about this to. I guess it comes down to the amount of supported unrestricted tourneys a month VS the type 2 H2Hs...
For the record: Tournament play is the ONLY reason I'd spend as much as I have on MWDA instead of CBT figures. Congratulations, "Wiz" Kids, you've just murdered your player base. Good-bye, it's been nice knowing you, now please drop dead.
Why reprint the units if you already have them from old sets?
...
Oh yeah, forgot, they get more money that way... but there's no logical reason other than that one.
Also, you basically cut off the age of people who will play your game. Younger kids (i'm 12, but i see 'em from 14-18 or whatever), will not be able to buy the products because they need to get more and more figures, and you can't afford that when you don't have a job that pays enough.
