Well actually, Wizards created type 2 play, which is essentially the exact same thing, and has nothing to do with banning or restricting of cards. Banning cards happens very seldom now, but restricting is common. Type 2 is the last 2 'blocks' (essentially from 4 to 6 expansions), plus the core set. So even their Type 2 play has more selections than WKs are planning.
Wizkids HAS bone-headed rules, broken mechanics to being with and now they are doing this to remedy their messed up rules and figures. What better way to fix something than to pretend it never happened.
The best part of WKs was the ability of their games to pay for themselves. I win an LE of a faction I don't play I sell it on ebay and buy more product with the money I got. This was the MAIN reason to success of WK in my honest opinion. It is the main reason why ALL the players I am personally familar with got in the game in the first place.
With this aspect of the game gone. There's NO way I'm paying for 4 pieces of plastic, 90% of which aren't worth their point value, making them USELESS in competitive play. When I can go to WOTC buy D&D or Star wars minis and get 8 of them , double the number of figs for the same cost. And these figs double as cheap alternates to pewter minis as well as a game on their own.
If you believe WKs will be financially stronger for this, I think you're solely mistaken. I know of two venues that run WKs tournaments every weekend, one of which I run at is probably going to not buy as much WK stuff anymore or run tourneys. And this is just from the rumour of this news.
When it comes true AND it will.... R.I.P. Wizkids.
You couldn't be more wrong. WotC bans all expansions outside the current and previous cycle, in the Type II events which account for most of the tournaments. And they hold a lot of "block" tournaments, where you only use cards from one or two sets.

In conclusion, this is potentially a very bad move made by Wizkids
I think it has been amply demonstrated that, while the player community knows much more about game balance, Wizkids are the experts on the business end of things.

This destroys the secondary market
Wizkids is all about depressing the frequently outrageous prices on the secondary market, lately.

and just pushes some of us to go and play other games. I for one will be turning my funds towards Warmachine, and back to 40K.
Oh, right. GW is such a breath of fresh air after the capitalist excesses of Wizkids. (rolls eyes)

As for decipher, and the #### fest that was the Star Wars CCG. I lived in the area ((north chicago suburbs)) where the World Campion played, and you had to own #### near ever card in the set to be competative
Far from it. You "merely" needed 50 rares to build a deck. Or you could scrape by with a deck that had 25 X-Wings, and get accused of cheese by the tycoons with their mains & toys decks. Yeah, it was a money game.

This is just a MONEY MAKING GREED FEST by WK.
Fight the power, free Huey, flower power, and etc.

I have never once heard a player want a piece or set banned.
First they did away with the participation program. (The most innovative and game stimulating idea they've had. They should reinstate it. The excuse they gave was lame in the extreme.)
Then, they alienated thier envoy base, the guys that make this engine go. (Let's not forget the passport program.)
Now this.
How will they shoot themselves in the foot after this? (How many feet do they have? That foot's NEVER going to heal!)
What could they possibly do to anger thier own fanbase further?
Anyone who spends $30 or more at the tourney will get 100 points added to thier build total? Bring a new addict/player and get an LE? (Oops, they already proposed that one.)

Oh, really?!?
Then I suppose you can explain why these "business experts" put out a series of bombing games in quick succession: Creepy Freaks, Crimson Skies, Shadowrun Duels?
Yeah, that's "business expertise" for you...
Guys, while there are some well thought out points of view in this thread, there are just too many of these threads floating around. Nothing here is so different as to require a new thread. There already is a generic "discuss the approved play changes" type thread.
