If I were a Liao player, I'd probably go for Catalina Trujilo and Jung Chae and fill the rest with support units.
Has anyone asked for a clarification about the special ballistic rules? I.e. "Ballistic damage is reduced by one to a minimum of one" or "Ballistic damage is reduced by one, possibly resulting in no damage". If it's not the former, then it ceases to be damage and therefore invalidates itself since it's no longer damage it doesn't get reduced. In my opinion it could have been worded a bit clearer and more specifically.
:) Well, I can't bring the WHOLE Provisional Lance, but Floyd Glass' Sphinx and CPT Gerringer's Panther look like they'll play nicely here... Or perhaps LT Jameson's mech again... Have to admit I'm looking forward to possibly playing a real Lance :) Glad I'm not running the event, so I'll get to field something really "fun"...

@ Brigand: very good question... it would make some of the ballistic attack infantry useless...
here is a quick army I put together:
LI Zahn Heavy Transport
---LI Fa Shih Battle Armor
---LI Salamander Battle Armor
---SW Minigun Cycle
LI Scout ATV Squad x 6
LI MHI Defense AA Tank
LI Phoenix Hawk
LI Hoa Phiri - Tian-zong
Total = 600 points
The Zahn can carry my mix of infantry or the MHI tank for a tank drop if there is a big heavy... P-Hawk can do DFA vs stuff already damaged by the tank drop, tied up by the Fa Shih BA or after it has run into Hoa Phiri.... ATV's do what they are best at base and break and I can do a formation of 4 and use 2 in formation with the MHI tank to use movement formations...
I do not understand how the "blizzard" effects ballistic and not energy weapons. I also think that it should effect heat and/or targeting not damage. Some of the postings have mentioned that it nullifies artillery. How would this work against, say the SS Arrow IV with 2 points of AP or the Merc Sniper. They still have AP so it is going to do at least 1 pt even against Hard/heavy armor...right?
Also, I'm thinking that Katsu M. would be a beast in this scenario -
23 defense (after bonus) hardened and 4 clicks of brawling
damage? In fact, I'm seriously considering going melee heavy
(lots of brawling) in this scenario. ;)
My only problem with arty in this scenario is that you invest ?
points to get a unit that, because of the -1 ballistic modifier,
will do 1 point of damage (on average), AP or not. Light, fast
arty such as the Padilla (SW version is the exception) and
Danai only deal 1 click per marker. With the new arty rules
prohibiting stacking, except from different arty units, light
arty would be virtually useless. Arty just doesn't seem a
practical choice for this scenario, IMHO. ;)
wow no arty and no VTOLs... what more can i ask for... hey david sounds like that campaign we were doing at T's house... so do you need me to run around back to shoot at the zeus' again? :)
i love this campaign... no VTOL and no ARTY... 2 less thing i have to worry about...
btw... HAHHAHAHA doesn't look too good for you T... considering the fact that your army is based on arty and VTOL... guess you have to pull them zahns out again :)
ohhh wait... #### stupid po's in the stupid bushes... what's that 25def vs. range? there are no terrain right?!?!??!?!?!? my god the RotS' hellstar in the bushes is 26def for this one... any i repeat... no terrain right?!?!??!?!??! SAY NO!!!!
