Hmmm...does anybody remember when inquest got real nasty about copyrighted info, and everyone got pissed? Wizkids, dont do something stupid...
And if i remeber correctly, on one of the last pages of the rule book, they say u can use make ur own rules; they suggest making games where u attack a salt shaker, and the first person to destroy it wins. They say they premote creatitivy....wizkids, im dissipointed...
i bet you this thread will be gone Soon so why dont we find a nice Forum that is unmoderated where we can say what ever we want
@ncluff- your lucky they Didnt kill you Corperate america Has more Power than you Think (what was that Click behind me--i turn around just in time to take a Bullet in the Face) :)
Actually I believe I know why it was pulled/closed. Because someone was posting on the WIZKIDS site about how their rules were better than the current ones and providing links to them in each text.
To blantanly go on the wizkids site and rub their noses in it is just asking for trouble.
It wasn't shut down until wizkids was forced to notice it.
Think of it this way...how would you like it if someone else was profiting from your invention/creation/idea? Obviously, these rules were posted on a website. This website probably had banners, which owners profit from the traffic gained by the content of the site upon which they are placed. Despite this perhaps being a rather small aspect of this issue, these banners' owners were profiting from these altered rules of WizKids' game. They aren't being 'mean-spirited', merely supporting their own public policy. After all, if their public policy is abridged, and they don't do anything about it, what good is it? (If the government decided to ignore a murder, what good would their laws be if you could break them and have a chance at getting away with it?)
Pulling of StuMan's website is just WK following its policy. WK should think of their limit on the player in the policy...
Players are enjoying (this depends on the person, just to be safe! ;)) their (WK's) game. That's why they keep buying or supporting the game in any way. Why does WK prevent the player from 'extending' the game to let more players enjoy it?
I think they should permit these kind of scenarios/extensions/mods/ports etc. as long as the people does not directly profit or sell the rules as a separate product.
Hell, GW can do it and supports fan-made rules (like 40k in 40min). It didn't kill or bastardized the product right?
If yall wanna carry on the thread do it on novamech.com...Its a good MW site but the forums are very innactive, it would be good to get some more people over there...
This is a sad day WK. It really demotivates me to want to continue purchasing WK's product.
The rules made the game interesting for me once again. I understand that WK wishes to preserve their copyright, but what is up with Unrestricted events then? Can only WK run and post the rules for an unrestricted event? What about the Solaris rules?
This was a bad move and sets a negative presidence. It has left a sour taste in my mouth when I was only trying to do everything I could to reinstill interest back into this game in my community. I am the only Battlemaster running events at a Venue in Nashville TN and have struggled to pick up interest. There are other BM's in surrounding areas, maybe I should just hang up my hat and find a new game to play...
I think even then they'd try and get rid of it. The problem is probably in this little gem of a rule:
"WizKids does not allow any individual, group, or organization to create, design, or publish rulebooks, ability cards, or related material that uses WizKids game pieces or game mechanics."
And that's not restricted to the kind of site it is. Given, they may not care enough to try and track it all down, but then again...
I appreciate that they want to protect their rights, but this isn't a case of someone abusing their rights, it's a case of someone just trying to improve their own personal experiences with one of Wizkids' products...and it makes me sad. Very sad.
