This is a serious problem. Perhaps there are many, many staunch supporters of WizKids out there and they were just scared off by the negativity on these forums, but even that's a very telling sign.
I have to wonder if Mage Knight players are as down on WizKids as MechWarrior players are. I don't hang out on MK forums, but it seems like a big part of the resentment that the MW playerbase feels is due to the broken game mechanics that comes with trying to force the Mage Knight system over the MechWarrior framework and all the strange errors and broken results which comes from that and an obvious lack of extensive playtesting.
The nascent Crimson Skies fanbase seemed pretty much dead on arrival due to whatever reason it was that held WK back from publicizing it more properly, but I wonder if their complaints revolve around the game system nearly as much as MechWarrior's do.
I just wonder if we might be able to pinpoint exactly where people seem to think things went wrong. Was it the emphasis on close combat in the game system that led to charge happy pieces like Arnis? Was it some aspect of the artillery rules that led to a particularly bad unbalancing of certain pieces? Was it something inherent in the depraved competitiveness of the players and the promise of prize support which ruined the whole atmosphere of the game and kept public discourse focused more on the problems of the tournament game than on issues with just plain fun game play? Is there anything that WK could possibly fix that would satisfy people or is the whole situation so tangled that the company shouldn't bother to try changing anything?
Even if anything changed, rules or otherwise, would anyone care anymore?
Hmmm... I guess I'm one of the few MW players that is not down on WK. Granted, most people will say it's because I am a Battlemaster, and afraid of losing my prize support, which is about as correct as green skies and purple bumblebees.
Frankly, without WK, there would have been no more Battletech, and I'll be thankful to them as long as Battletech continues to be produced.
Liao incrusion the best set? I will definitely call a trial of refusal for that decision. The reason why Liao should not be the best set:
1) THe mining mech mk2 aka dumpster. Gosh whoever vote for liao must have never pulled a dumpster
2) SSw AAA... the most broken towed arty piece ever
3)Arnis ... enough said
4) Useless 8 attack Crimson Hawks and Ullers... do we really need them second time around?!?!?

What does it say when one goes to a companys official forums and 90% of the people posting are openly mocking the company, if not outright hostile? What does it say when a companys game gets nominated for awards and virtually everyone on the most popular forum for that game is openly dubious?
I guess it says they have a PR problem. *shrug*

I just still found it funny that Creepy Freaks was nominated as a game of the year. rotfl.
When I went to vote, I looked at the nominees for best minatures. GW's LotR, PP's Warmachine minis, WK's Liao Incursion and MK 2.0, among others. Hmmm...let's see who would I vote for? Dump trucks on legs? Units whose best attack numbers top out at 8? No thanks. I'm glad WK notified us to vote because my vote for best minis definitely went to a set of better-designed minis.
Still, I needed that laugh yesterday. Was having a bad day until I read Creepy Freaks was nominated for Origins Game of the Year.
I was wondering if Jade Falcon will hold its own in faction pure this set, ie will they get a repair unit, AA vehicle, decent transport, bypassing infantry etc. (within design paradigms of course)? or will they need to be played with other faction's units?
Kinda funny thing actually, as Wizkids didnt have much competition for a lot of the catagories. Their only one might be the LotR game by Games Workshop.
