I don't know... I don't like this low defense high attack and damage idea. As I've posted earlier, I had a game where I scared away Trovic (230 pts) for 3/4 of the game with two ROTS Balacs (about 50 each). I know I know, MWDA is not CBT, but that should simply not happen. And it seems that lot of the FP Mechs, not one the JF ones, will have this problem.
What this does is making drops of any kind (TAC-Drops, Kanazuchi Drops, tank drops) even more viable than they are already today. Everything I see in FP is enforcing the "first strike wins" idea. VTOLs will come back for sure given the fact that 90% of the AA pieces are just unusable, and some factions still lack a single AA piece.
Giving heavy Mechs a defense value of 16-18, and artillery 23, and some tanks even 24, just does not seem right. We will see even fewer Mechs in armies than we do today.
In CBT, some Mechs were not armor monsters. P.e. take the Locust. But these Mechs were #### fast, making it difficult to hit them. And this compensated for the low armor. You could outrun your targt, run into its back, and fire your weapons into the weak back. In MWDA, the light Mechs are fragile AND easy to hit... worthless. I outrun my target into the back arc, and he charges me. Wow. If they alterd charge the way that you needed a clear line of sight to your charge victim, and that you could only charge victims into your front arc, that might help a lot to boost fast light Mechs.
Originally posted by Czech I think we are going to see a change in mech rules that will help to counterract the dropping defenses. WK is always alluding to us not knowing what is on the horizon and how mechs will dominate. The mechs we've seen so far for FP are cannon fodder, so something big must be coming.
If WK moves quickly, they can release a new base set (hopefully 2.0 w/ a better ruleset) and a small expansion set to take advantage of the new rules. That would leave counterassault, jade falcon, and the expansion X.
Four months later they could release another expansion....viola the powercreep/imbalance can be corrected by April 2005.
Yes, if this were true it would mean much pain for everyone, but I prefer my bandages pulled quickly...not a little at a time.
It's funny. The Wizkids back in the 60's and 70'swere the so called tactics experts used in vietnam to make decisions. They are acredited with being some of the worst tacticians in history, and made terrible decisions as well. Maybe Wizkids is basing their mission statement around them.
