TSEMP could be effective against tank drops if there exists a unit capable of hitting that far. Unassuming tank droppers will probably let the VTOL come into attack range.
A formation (well, let's call it a flight group, since VTOLs can't do formations) of Elite Skadis could very well neutralize a tank drop OR a 'Mech. And that leaves pleny of room for a big 'Mech (say, three Skadis, which will give you 144 points, leaves room for Declan and maybe a Long Tom. Shut 'em down and light 'em up?)
Like we need another reason not to play mechs.... TSEMP is just a really bad idea IMO. I am all for challenge and variety but anything that makes mechs less desirable is not what MECHwarrior needs.
Heh. Who cares about mech/TSEMP interaction? Mechs are usually an unwise point investment anyway.
Just out of curiosity (I'm too lazy to flip pages and try to sort it out for myself, particularly when 70% of the rules in this game are simply commonality anyway) what happens in this instance:
Spend an order to pog something with my arty, it gets a token. Your turn.
You zap my artillery with TSEMP, it gets a second token. My turn.
I've got 2 tokens on the artillery now... so do I get a 3rd? Or can I resolve the artillery at all? Does the very fabric of space-time unravel and unmake existence?
The second token is irrelevant to the resolution of the order; artillery is only given a token when you Ready it (or do a move or direct fire), not when you Resolve the Artilllery Attack.

modification behind, we don't add tokens to the arty anymore
we subtract orders (... I think...unless they changed it again...)
so the space time continueum is safe. :-)
I have a soloution to this problem....... It is called the AA Defender a SS One will swat theese things down in one good hit. But the VTOL's will make it more intresting to play i just wish we would see Nightshade's and other VTOL Jets.

Ah, thats right, they didnt go with the tokens-shifting thing. I forgot because Mk1 nerf and Mk2 nerf were effectively the same things (with a few fiddly bits cut out).
VTOL does not need to be fixed, The rules are fine except IMO For that mehcs need a power boost. LOL as an example of howpowerful, once in mechwarrior three in a far level (op 4 mission 3 i believe) I had just shot a Donar out of the sky so i walk forward...and it crashes into my cockpit and i have to restart LOL it was funny but an example of how VTOL's should be able to ram.
OK... so, you field a fatty. I make a run with the FP Skandi and TSEMP said fatty. NOW my two SS Balacs make a run at your fatty and tattoo it most unkindly. Rinse, repeat. Jeez, I really don't like the way this game has... well, I can't say progressed 'cause it ain't progress to me. Mutated. That seems about right. This is really Mutant Mechwarrior, where everything but the mechs are efficient and cost effective. bleh.

Blessed be people!!!! Calm the earthly ruins down!!!! I have not heard this much panicing since St Anger was played for the first time and everybody said Metallica was ruined.
Why don't we wait and see what happens with TSEMP. I am more worried about the Homing beacon myself, used in conjunction with the 18 gyrfalcon and a pair of JessIIs would be deavastating against a Big mech.
When we predicted that artillery would hurt the game, we heard the same thing. The "nay sayers" were correct and arty was nerfed. We said the same thing about cap 3 transports and dropping vehicles that could then act. It is obvious that tank drop is not the greatest idea for the game. VTOLs were predicted to be a problem... and they are to some extent. Now we are saying TSEMP is a bad idea and, of course, we have no idea what we are talking about because it would be impossible for anyone to actually evaluate something about this game without seeing it in action. Wake up!
