It's not the Assault order that scares me so much as the ability to shoot out of base contact. Even with the Assault Order, if you can't shoot into base then small mechs are afforded some protection by basing a non-hover/evade vehicle in its back arc. With the ability to shoot into base contact, this gives the small mech a +1 to its defense instead of negating a shot as is did in the past.
This isn't a complaint though, it just means that we've all got to come up with some new strategies. Since I've always thought that this was the best part of the game, I'll be in hog heaven at the release of AoD. Factor in all of the variables brought about by the cards, and there's a lot to sort through. Maybe we'll even see the revival of real strategy threads on Realms!
On the contrary, I used destroy assault mech armies using A. Kirasawa and the DF Uller (or Shin Wolf). How did I do that? Well, if the assault mech really wants to charge my Uller, he'll be heated up so much and damaged enough that my remaining units can take him down. If not, I can always maneuver out of his arc or linger just outside his range so he can't shoot me (Geoff Bekker being an exception to the rule). The end result is that I destroy the rest of his army around him and he never gets a shot in edgewise. Now the assault mech can be 10" out from his drop zone in a water terraine and if I put my mech on the far corner of his drop zone he can still use an Assault order and hit me (assuming 14" range and 6" movement on the assault mech). One shot like that from an assault mech and my mech is trash. I can't even get VC3 with my light mech anymore, let alone kill anything.
Missing my point. What I am talking about is the fact that even with the current rules, smaller mechs get owned by the large mechs almost every time, assuming equal playskill and proper force builds.
Do I believe that 2 smaller mechs will beat a large one? Absolutely, and the same will apply in AOD, ESPECIALLY with good gear/pilot picks.
Funny but in last tournie sittuation was this: my oppnent tried to charge my Shone Roshak with BR and SS Mjolnir and based with DF´ConMech Mk II. Sittuation was bad for him becouse my Shone Roshak was undamaged and he had lost SS Mjolnir and DF ConMech Mk II and his BR Mjolnir was in salvage.

I sincerely hope you're right. I love medium to light mechs and have always despised assault mechs. You have to play well to do a good job with lighter mechs. If you follow a few simple rules about not shutting down with assault mechs they are actually very easy to play. They also don't usually have the options that light mechs do because of their movement limitations.
Regarding the Assault order:
If they had made it a +2 modifier to the target's defense rather than a +1, I think I would be much less turned off by the whole assault order thing....That is, of course, assuming that you can't assault when you are based.
