Trust me, WK has thier "blessed" venues for pre-releases. If you aren't blessed, don't count on getting one anytimes soon. I've been making inquiries and the like for almost a year now, and its always the same answer. You can look on the HC pre-release page on the WK site to get a good feel for who will get the pre-release events.
they generally choose places that can hold upwards of 100 players. there is only one site in north carolina, south carolina, some parts of ga and Va. they all come to High Point, NC to play. Djs is a nice place but its not all its cracked up to be.
Its just a shame these types of events can't be moved out of any one venue into neutral sites (or rotate venues) so as to not take initial sales from the surrounding venues and funnel them into one venue. Particularly when there are more than one venue in the area that can support that size event.
Originally posted by newtoncain Just remember we'll all need to buy a starter at the pre-release. What good is a booster w/o the new rules. I'd bet it will be $40-60 US dollars for 1 starter and 1-2 boosters. How else are they going to run it? 3 AoD boosters under the old rules? Who knows it is WizTopps we are talking about.
My Understanding from one of the Q&A with Draddog messages was that the rules were expected to be available online by mid December, and possibly sooner.
If the rules are available online before Jan 15th, there is no need to buy the starter for the pre-release.

It's my understanding that with the new Premiere-level events system that this is exactly what they're trying to do. (Yes, pre-releases are considered premiere-level). All part of the overhaul that the system is going through with the new AP staff.
Oh, I forgot. I was excited, but then I remembered, I live in the south, but NOT Florida or Texas. I will NEVER see Comics and Stuff, Tupelo, MS on the list. Oh, that's MY main Venue! ok, here's to hoping, AGAIN!
Originally posted by Rimoran Believe it or not... it is very helpful even with just the dates. Maybe not helpful to you, but definately helpful to Battlemasters who want to coordinate their January events around the Pre-Release. I ran an event in August competing with a Pre-Release elsewhere in the city. I had 1 person show up, only because he didn't realize there _was_ a Pre-Release going on. LOL
Actually, you should put a qualifier on this and say "helpful to the handful of battlemasters". I can pretty much guess the nearest event will be 3 hours away from here and will have absolutely NO impact on my local players. Until Wizkids gets a clue and starts moving these events around, it won't help a lot of people except for those lucky enough to have one close enough to them. I am, of course, assuming this is running the same way the Heroclix events are being run where the elite few will get to have them in their cities.
here in the phoenix area we have our pre-release events at a store that does not even sell wizkids products. as they want a venue that is big for magic. i dont see the logic in that at all. they got the falcons prey and the heroclix last one. they did get a big show for for falcons but nothin for heroclix. there are several venues just as big that could host this event but for some reason they want the magic players store?
